Hey Gang!

No art today (Dragon Con is taking up most of my time), but I did find time to put together a podcast with author Lucien Soulban! Check it out via our Vigilance Press website... he's giving away prizes in the form of Mutants and Masterminds books, and we're adding some PDF downloads for additional prizes!

Gearing up for the next big convention stop: GEN Con Indy!

I can't wait to see all my Gen Con friends, and team up with Dan Houser for some more artworks! We'll be bringing Dan's printer and cranking out some cool color art again. For those who can't see us there, we'll be teaming up again for AWA this year as well!

This year's Gen Con will be special, because it'll be the first year I show up representing Vigilance Press as owner and publisher. I'm hoping to grab a table in the dealer's room for next year, but this year Dan and I will be once again in the Anime Artist's Alley in the hotel across from the Dealer's Room. Check your Gen Con maps!

See you there!

JAFAX's Theme this year is "Anime University." I've been attending JAFAX here in Michigan for the past 12 years or so, and it never gets old.

This year, however, I'm not trying to sell my own wares, I'm scouting other artists. It's a strange feeling, walking through the Artist's Alley and scouting other people's art. I'm used to giving critiques and doing art trades and so forth, but this year I'm critically appraising people and gauging whether I think they'd be a good fit for a Vigilance Press product. I almost feel like an undercover agent or a truant officer, spying on all these hopefuls and trying to pick the ones who are ready to step up to the plate.

I see loads of potential everywhere I look, and a couple of artists have really caught my eye as having that level of polish I'm looking for. Here's to all the artists who are in the Alley, plying their trade, selling their wares. Good luck to you all, but most of all... have fun!!

Welcome to 2012!

This year is already starting off with a bang. Yesterday I got to put inks down atop the amazing pencils of one of my artistic heroes: Denise Jones. You can find the finished inks here: jamesdawsey.deviantart.com/art…

Today I get to color it. With Valentine's Day being one of my least-participated in holidays, it's strange I should be having so much fun with our upcoming release: "Strange Attractors." Jack Norris set the bar a little higher than I expected with the text, but with Denise's help I think we can really make this project something to remember. I hope you'll enjoy it!

All the Best!

This will be my last entry for 2011, I think!

Today I got to speak with Jeff Dee (look for his art on Deviant Art: jeffdee.deviantart.com/ ) on my podcast (which you can find here: vigilancepress.podbean.com/201… ).

Why should you care? Well, Jeff Dee was the guy who made me realize *people* drew those illustrations in books. Gaming books in particular. He was one of the first illustrators whose style kept grabbing my eye, and I kept recognizing his name, so I finally put two and two together and realized there was a person whose art I really liked. You may remember him as one of the creators of Villains and Vigilantes, or an artist for TSR's "Dungeons and Dragons" back in the late 70's early 80's. You may know him from a short stint in comics working on the US version of Mospeada(forgive me if I spell that wrong). You may never have heard of him... but if you haven't, check out that Deviant Art page and look at what he's up to these days.

I like to think that he's a creator much like myself, that maybe I can be like someone who uses imagery and wisdom to make stuff happen. He's one of the first artists whose names I ever learned, and today, I got to interview him on my show.

I can't tell you folks how much that means to me, and how grateful I am for that opportunity.

2011 goes out with a bang...

2012? You've got a lot of awesome to achieve if you think you can compare to 2011.

Cheers, everyone! See you on the flipside.

It's been a while since my last journal entry, but Vigilance Press has kept me busy!

The Oktobermen has been a smash hit, so we're following it up with several projects that will be linked to it(but playable as standalone pieces, never fear!).

Our next release will be the first ICONS conversion of Charlie McElvy's WatchGuard. Jesse Justice and I did the art for one of the new characters. Woo! :)

Also upcoming is the first of our Devilish Duos, "Smoke and Mirrors." You can see the art for Smoke here! fav.me/d4ie9lm

I'm going to go play some games now. Have a great holiday, if I don't see y'all before whatever holidays you celebrate. :)

Okay, so a big, big thanks going out to my customers who made Anime Weekend Atlanta such a huge success for me. You guys are the bomb!

In more news, I'm almost ready to launch the newly moved Vigilance Press Podcast at our new Podbean site. vigilancepress.podbean.com/

We'll be interviewing Jon Leitheusser this weekend for the big release of the new Gamemaster's Guide for Mutants and Masterminds! Also coming up next week, we'll be talking to Steve Kenson on that topic as well as others. I hope you'll join us!

The Oktobermen are almost ready to publish, I can't wait to get the reactions from people on this one. We put a lot of work into it, and everyone should be proud. Vigilance Press has some of the best people in the business!

Til next entry, folks, stay Vigilant! :)

Gearing up for Anime Weekend Atlanta, now that I've finished catching up with the art for Vigilance Press. Man! I can't wait for AWA this year. It'll be a nice change of pace to only drive five minutes to get to a con from my home. :)

If you're going to be there, look for me in the Artist Alley!

Cheers!

Vigilance Press at Dragon Con? (edited)

Well, it seems not this year. Too many last-minute things to deal with this week have put me off my game plan for the weekend. I'll be crushed for time just to get some things published by next week. Soooo, looks like I'll have to give Dragon Con a miss.

Sad in a way, but there's always next year. and I *will* have a table at Anime Weekend Atlanta this year! So never fear, kiddos, there's other chances to catch me locally. :)

Also, if you know any Atlanta-area conventions where I should get a table, let me know! :)

So.

Now I'm a RPG publisher.

Things change so quickly these days, but as they say "You won't get new results by doing the same things over and over." Or something like that.

I'm the newly minted owner of Vigilance Press, the publisher of many fine role-playing game supplements for ICONS, Mutants and Masterminds, True20, and more! We're even developing our own Fate-based RPG. So busy, so busy. Oh, did I Mention? I'll be at Baltimore Comic Con next week, showing off our wares and talking to artists! If you're a budding artist and you'll be in the area, PLEASE stop by and show off your portfolio. I'm always scouting for new talent, and I have several projects coming up that will need some really awesome art. Also, if you're a layout artist, see me!

I won't stop doing art, but it'll be focused a lot more on the Vigilance Press projects, so expect the occasional blip here and there on DA... but forgive me if I get distracted elsewhere. :)

Oh, MAN. I can't believe it's been so long since I posted a Journal entry. I'm not dead, folks, I swear!

As a matter of fact, my life has never been more lively! I've been published multiple times by Vigilance Press (RPG adventures in PDF format!) and I've joined up with some other writers and artists to create Stark City Games! Check out our latest project, METAs! Using the Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition license, we will be publishing fan-submitted characters with artwork by myself and Dan Houser!

There's the first image from the book. There's still room to reserve a slot for your own character, if you're interested! Contact me at james at jamesdawsey dot com or on Facebook for more info!

I have less than 30 slots left in the first book, and the spaces are only 20 dollars apiece! Pretty cool, eh?

Coming up, look forward to meeting me and Dan Houser at Gen Con Indiana and Baltimore Comic Con in August! Also, as always, I have a table reserved at Anime Weekend Atlanta.

If you want to see me at other cons, let me know! I'm looking for new places where Dan and I can do our team-supreme act. :)

All my best!

JAFAX this year was a fantastic time, I got to show my friend and ally Dan Houser my home town con (and some of the home town restaraunts!), and we created some fantastic art together!

Then, I get home, and there's an email waiting for me from Vigilance Press. Turns out the first of several Mutants and Masterminds supplements with our art (Dan and Myself) has come out! Check it out here! www.rpgnow.com/product_info.ph…

I'm really excited to start seeing our stuff in digital print. I also can't wait for more announcements that will shortly follow... more stuff coming! Soooo much awesome stuff!!

Okay, after a very, very busy Summer, Fall is finally here. And with it, Anime Weekend Atlanta! I'll be there with my partner in crime Dan "Dipswitch" Houser, performing feats of amazing skill right before your very eyes! Well, assuming you're going to be in the Artist's Alley this weekend.

My homepage should be up soon (hope hope), but until then you can email me for commissions at: james(at)jamesdawsey.com

Dan and I will be doing special deals at the con, including some fun novelty items and badges! Please stop by and say "Hello!"

Also, stay tuned for cool announcements in the Mutants and Masterminds arena, as Dan and I are both working on several projects which will be announced 'ere long!

Okay, so, big big news in the land of James. I have a cohort! A compadre! A partner in crime!

Dan Houser of 'Dipswitch Comics' fame and ICONS the Role-Playing game is working with me to create an avalanche of awesome artwork!

We'll be at Gen-con next week, August 5th through the 8th. I'll be at the Anime Artist Alley, sketching my heart out. If everything goes according to plan, Dan will be at my side transforming my pencils into awesome color CG artwork *RIGHT THERE AT THE CON!!!*

We're working on artwork together now, and if you're interested in a Dawsey/Houser teamup piece, give me an eMail! Special prices while they last. james Splat jamesdawsey.com is the email!

See you at Gen-Con!

Okay, so, you might be wondering why I haven't uploaded any art from AWA 2009, now that the con is over. Well, I apologize, but now that the Artist's Alley is in the Convention Center, there was no free electricity or wi-fi like we had last year. This means I couldn't scan any of the artwork, or upload it as I went along.

Sad, but true. Ah, well. On the plus side, several of my customers enthusiastically offered to scan the art I did for them. Hopefully they'll remember when they get home. =D

Anway, I had a great time, and plan to finish up some of my 'downtime doodles' from the con and post them up to Deviant when they're finished. The magic word for Anime Weekend Atlanta this year? Twi'lek!

Hey, folks! Well, Gen-con was awesome. Still finishing up my commissions from that one. Looking very much forward to AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) this year. I'll be in the new, 'Improved' artist's alley. Hope to see lots of you there! I'm a big fan of the con, been in the alley there for about 10 years, now. Can't wait to show off my latest and greatest! =D

***Edit*** Wow, I totally forgot to mention that I'll be in the Anime Artist's Alley next week at Gen-Con! Hope to see folks there! ***Edit***

Okay, so today I posted a bunch of images, most of which are sketches from my ongoing Middle Kingdoms campaign. It's a Role-Playing campaign I'm running that was inspired by the Naruto anime, so it's about a goup of ninja-in-training and their struggles to achieve immortality. In the Middle Kingdoms storyling, there are 108 'Divine' immortals, and one of them is looking to retire and pass on to the next plane of existence. Before that can happen, a new Immortal must be chosen to protect the sacred ninja village... and of course, all the players are vying for that position. They're also working as a team to protect the village from threats, both foreign and domestic.

The game has been on hiatus for a few months, but I'm kicking off Season 2 of the game with a big flashback story arc that will show some of the more popular NPC characters as they were 20 years ago, and a major event from the past which may shed some light on the events that will be challenging the players in the near future.

I've been having a lot of fun with this campaign, and I hope the players are, too.

Oh, and I threw in a cartoon Godzilla from a T-shirt design I did a couple of months back. I'll post the full T-shirt image in a day or three.

Anyway... from now on, I hope to keep this journal up to date and start having some real interaction with my fans here (as I can't seem to keep my own website up to date at all!).

Thanks to everyone, and I hope you like this peek into my private collection of art. I'll be posting more Middle Kingdom characters shortly... including some of the actual Player Characters (with the players's permission, of course).

Seeya next time!
Well, it's about time I figured out how to use Deviant Art!

I've just come home from Anime Weekend Atlanta, and I decided to get this place into shape while I Was fired up.

Tonight, I'll be updating with several recent pieces I've done, some commissions from the convention, and some sketches I'm working on for an upcoming Shadowchasers project. Please leave some comments, I'm going to start checking back here on a weekly basis!

Hope to chat with you soon! :)
