My deviantART Story

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 7, 2014, 7:28 AM
Hello everyone! Today I want to take a moment and share with you my journey on deviantART.

The first time I was actually looking at work on dA was many years ago and I didn't have an account here until about five years ago. I was using the moniker haixai and using this site to post the art I was creating while in a graphic design and commercial design class. Most of the creations from that period are not available for viewing, save a small folder titled 'haixai' in my gallery. I also had some paintings which I enjoyed but didn't want to share for personal reasons.

In those days I was very much into kawaii vectors and more surreal style work. I watched a lot of anime, read lots of manga and really had a dark sense of humor. I'm grateful most of that didn't show through, and just the Japanese influences did.

I kept that account until I had graduated highschool. Going into the years after that I decided to pursue a career that was still creative but not quite the same artistic career like the work I had been posting. I went to school for cosmetology and now I work as a hairstylist. (Seriously though, if anyone is considering doing something like that please feel free to ask me questions!) That change in my life required a fresh start here and I made up my mind that I needed to use my name instead of hiding behind a word. *does anyone remember what haixai means? Let me know if you remember me from this!

I started taking more photographs and still do to this day. Most I don't share but when I get something I'm very proud of I make sure to post it.

I try to keep my work more positive and 'happy' but there has been a lot of depression in my life. This is something I'm not proud of and don't want that to show through my comments and posts. I try to keep myself surrounded by good things and as long as I don't stray from that I can usually handle life pretty well. That being said, I do have an appreciation for the darker things and can be identified as a 'goth', although I don't really consider myself one. I have taken a few major breaks from dA where I just want to delete everything and close my account but thanks to all the nice people I've been able to meet through the site, I'm still here. :)

Late 2011 I started making books and in April 2012 I made my first tutorial. I didn't have access to that great of a camera but somehow I managed to produce something I'm proud of.

That led to a few other tutorials and even a DD! I really never thought that something like that could happen to me.

I did have to stop making books at that time because of the demands both for school and the salon really took the energy from me!

I never purchased the programs I had been using in graphic design, and one day I might so there is a chance that I could develop my digital style of work but in the mean time I continue to take photographs and little doodles. I would like to continue to share my work with all you lovely people and make new friends along the way. I know that I haven't exactly been the most consistent and I want everyone to know that all the nice comments have really made it easier for me to stay positive in life.

I don't want to sound cheesy saying this so hopefully it won't come off that way. I don't need extra drama in my life so I avoid it at all costs and dA has been a place for me to do that.

I have no idea what the future holds and I hope that the years to come can be just as great. Please let me know your dA story by posting a link to in the comments below!
