Ask Movie Slate - The Postman

Ask Movie Slate - Episode 196

Commission for :iconssjcharon: featuring the awesome Special "Speedee" Delivery created by the even more awesome :iconask-wiggles:

I can't go any further in the description without talking about Special "Speedee" Delivery, to whom I'll refer to as Speedee from now on. It's been a while since I've become enamored with a character so quickly, but Speedee right here is perhaps one of the best OCs I've seen in the MLP Fandom. She's like the Leslie Knope of pony OCs. She's happy, cheerful, hardworking, passionate, and seems to see the good things even when everything is going wrong, but she doesn't seem to live in her own little world. She seems aware of everything around her, yet that doesn't diminish her enthusiasm. I love her, she's great, and I can't wait to see more of her in the future.

"The Postman" is one of those movies that I've heard a lot about, for years, and therefor one might imagine my opinion about it has been biased. That's never the case with me, honestly. I've seen movies the whole world has hated years after the fact, and loved them. The same way I've seen movies the whole world has loved years after the fact, and despised them. So I went into this one the way one should do things, with a clean sight and hope in my chest, determined to sit in front of this movie and damn well try to like it. Three months later, around the time the movie decided to stop, I have to admit that sometimes even the majority can be overwhelmingly right. This movie just goes on, and on, and on, and it tells nothing. It's meant to be a post-apocalyptic movie about how the United States went to shit due to a war that left the whole country cut off from the rest of the world, and how a group of couriers are the ones that pull the country back together. This is the type of movie that suffers from overabundance and an excessive ego. It thinks it's telling this epic story about redemption and discovery, when we are just following a cast of characters that's so unlikeable and impossible to relate to we might as well be staring at the rocks on the side of the road for three hours. "Gerry" is a much more entertaining movie than this, at least "Gerry" is only an hour and a half long, and it has Matt Damon in it. This movie gives you nothing and it takes away everything. By the time it was over I swear I felt like I got stuck in that planet from "Interstellar" where one hour equals to seven years on Earth. Avoid it. Don't watch it. It's not even "so bad it's good" levels, it's "so bad it's boring and obnoxious and pretentious and why the fuck isn't this movie over already?" levels.

This one was kind of a self-discovery piece right here. I wasn't sure of how to represent Rainbow Falls, since it's one of my favorite locations in all of Equestria, and I wasn't sure if I had the skill to make them justice. I still think the picture could've used a bit more sprucing here or there, but you can only work on something for so long while the rest of your work piles up unfinished, so I decided to stop there and move onto the next piece. I have to say, I feel quite happy with those rainbow waterfalls, and the houses look quite alright. You might have noticed that this doesn't feel very post-apocalyptic, and that's because the movie is pretty much like that. They threw a few wooden planks, some forts, and a few charred vehicles, and then called it an apocalypse. If they aren't going to make their apocalypse gritty then I'm making Rainbow Falls pretty with a touch of grit.

I hope you guys enjoy the picture!

Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate each and every single one I receive.

I will say, it's thanks to this movie I discovered the awesomeness that was Six String Samurai.
