Ask Movie Slate - Episode 169

The story of how I come up with (almost) every Movie Slate update is pretty much the same. It's usually while I'm on the street, walking to some place, or when I'm in the bus, in the car, or just traveling somewhere. They always come to me when I'm moving, which is weird considering I don't move all that much. But for this one I was just sitting at my desk, looking at the update that will come out next week, when I thought: "Wait, wasn't there a taxi driver pony in one episode?" And that's what linked everything else together in this picture.

"Scrooged" is perhaps one of the most original Christmas movies I've seen. Not only does it have a tone and look of its own, but I love what they did with the three Christmas Ghosts. I love the Ghost of Christmas Past as an insane Taxi driver. I love the Ghost of Christmas Present as a violent ball-busting pixie. And I love how downright terrifying the Ghost of Christmas Future is with its innards made out of the damned. But besides the great designs, the movie has an awful lot of heart. Bill Murray is always excellent, Karen Allen does a really good job as always, needless to say the actors playing the ghosts are all awesome, Bobcat Goldthwait is a riot, and the scenes with the Cooley family are so sweet and tender. They make me all warm and fuzzy inside, especially that ending.

It's a really good movie, and severely underrated as well, so I couldn't resist, I had to mix it up with the characters in MLP and I had a ball with this one.

I also tried something different and played the symbolism card hard on the picture. I divided it in three segments each one with its own unique lighting. Warm yellows for the Past, bright pinks for the Present, and cold blues for the Future. I also put Movie Slate next to Princess Cadence because she's in the present, and looks ahead scared of what's to come (which is a sentiment I think we all have every once in a while). This was an experiment, tried to keep three separate color palettes and don't mix the colors too much with each other, so I'll let you guys judge whether it worked or not.

With that said, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful night, be well, be happy, enjoy yourselves, and have a good one.

Thank you!

Uh...wow. I've lived long enough to see someone ponifiy the cabbie from Scrooged (which means you've ponified the lead singer of the New York Dolls XD). Yay me! And yay you, too!
