The Upandu is a race well adapted to the diverse ecosystems of the Értrad islands, on the Ewdtia Planet. There are various types: flying, swimming and running ones. The Running Upandu are the ones that dominate a wider territory and they can also fly or swim for long periods of time. Moreover, they have more elaborate customs and are the biggest and most clever of the Upandu.
The Running Upandu have certain quite remarkable anatomical elements: the wings, the pseudohorn, the toothed beak, the forelimbs and hindlimbs that have impressive claws and the stabilizer tail. They travel in large hierarchical groups by according to their status. Having the most prestigious status are the Red Upandu (the "elder"), followed by the Exaxawi and the Axawiawes.

The Red Upandu stored the knowledge of previous generations and guide to the rest wisely. The Axawiawes are the hunters of Giant Purple Spiders. The Exaxawi are those Axawiawes who have managed to kill more Spiders (this explains the name "Purple Eyes", the literal meaning of Exaxawi). The society of the Upandu evolved from a nomadic state to the formation of large states. The figure of one Red Upandu, Xurmiulaxman, played a fundamental role in the formation and development of those great states, and in subsequently preventing any of them from extending their control over the rest.
