I turned this in yesterday for a class, so I feel comfortable enough in posting this! I know I'm behind on messages here too, but I'm slowly getting to them! (Keyword: slowly)
As many of you know, I’ve basically become an art hermit during school -- the workload is that big, and any art I’ve done is just doodles. However, this past spring semester and this semester, I’ve been lucky enough to use projects as a way to work on actual comic pages or illustrations. These two images are, uh, an example of the latter!
Basically we did 10 exercises so people could learn to use the tablet + Photoshop and then one final. I, uh...breezed through the exercises XD But we had to integrate those exercises in our final, so that’s where the textures from Ara + Wyda’s clothes come from! I originally wanted to make kirigami and have these two pop up with another illustrative layer underneath (I was going to have ~symbolism~, basically) but the kirigami part didn’t work out so good. Whoops! So instead just went for fancy art :3
I wanted to experiment drawing in Medieval/Russian Orthodox icon style too, but that would’ve taken too much time for both sets, so I left the underneath picture for later and worked on these ones. I liked how they turned out! Designing Wyda’s outfit was hard. Kept being too complicated or BLEGH until I reached this one. Ara’s was easy, it’s based a little on alchemists’ outfit seen in wood etchings.
Lettering was boss, if I may say so myself nyuck nyuck 8D A little too light, but at least it’s still visible. The “language” for Wyda is, unlike Ara’s Enochian, comes from combining Arabic writing, since as a Jinn, her language is understood only by other Jinn/proto-language status.
Ara + Wyda are from my webcomic Legendary Beings Ara & Celi, which is currently on hiatus but you can read here:
