A Small Place in the Sun
Chapter one.
Mr. Lucky
George Grant sighed as he sat in his command chair in the pilot house of his ship, the Antelope. He idly scanned the various screens in front of him. His GPS, the two radar screens, and then he checked the instruments reading out the engine temperature, the oil, and the fuel levels. It was late into his night shift, and he was alone. He wasn't tired, just lonely up there looking out into the darkness of the night on a fairly calm sea.
Four hours on and eight hours off. He envied his four companions, at least they took their watches in pairs. Still, it was quiet and he could think about what was awaiting them at the end of this strange voyage. “Strange is putting it mildly.” He said aloud to himself as the thought struck him. He shook his head, took another sip of the now cold coffee in his cup and started to think about just how he ended up on this ship, sailing toward a very strange future that quite possibly could set him an

Peggy stood by the dining table. “O K. Well the food and drink is up here, so you can all make your own sandwiches, except, of course for Geordie and Kim. Sandra and Neil, you two will have to put together the meals your little charges want to eat, and then Neal will have to shrink their plates down for them.”
“I guess I will grab a couple of sandwiches and some coffee and get back to the pilothouse.” Steven said dejectedly.
As he turned to the table George called out to him. “Steven, hold on.”
Sandra felt George trying to turn his body around to face the room and it suddenly dawned on her just where she had placed him. Her massaging of George's back had slowly pushed him slightly into her cleavage. Her bra beneath her T-shirt had kept him from going too deep, but his twisting and using his hands and arms to try to position himself to talk to Steven created a sensation within her that brought a blush to her cheeks. Archer, sighed as he fished out his cellphone and found Waldhern's number and had the phone dial it. He hated making these useless checkup calls. Waldhern really couldn't give him any new intelligence on the situation he had not already been given by the Eye.
“Ah, Phoenix. You must have some interesting news for me, to be using your private cellphone, instead of the secure Ship-to-Shore line up on the bridge.” Waldhern said.
“Well sir, as you well know, this line is actually far more secure then what we have on the ship. Only our mutual friends have any access to eavesdrop over this particular line.” Archer said in response.
“Which has me wondering why you would want this call recorded Mister Archer. I am at a clear disadvantage in this partnership. I know very little about my “partner” except that he seems to have very influential friends within your country's government that have kept

Part 10
“You are welcome. Can I help you out of there Geordie?” She asked him softly.
George continued to stare at her, there was something very different about Sandra. Maybe it was simply that being so small while Sandra was now huge, he could make out many features of her face that would have gone unnoticed had he been his... large size. Whatever it was, she was different, she seemed more relaxed and the strain of her anger seemed to be gone. She looked even more youthful then when he had first met her.
Sandra suddenly became very self-conscious when George failed to respond to her question. “Maybe... maybe you don't trust me. I... know I've said things, gone out of my way to piss you off. I'm a.....”
“A self-reliant woman who was put into a situation she never dreamed o' bein' in.” George interrupted, finishing her sentence for her. “Let’s not start a discussion that we will end up reg

“Is our gear down Neil?” He asked.
“Yes, George, from what I can see here it's down. Good luck.”
Time seemed to stand still for everyone. Steven and Peggy listened to the radio speakers in the pilot house. Neil was intently watching the little plane as it rapidly approached them. Sandra was the only one who suddenly went into action. They had forgotten to put the boat into reverse, and she literally threw herself to the edge of the deck where she could reach her hand into the cockpit and push the throttles back just enough to have the boat reverse itself. She had left the wheel set dead-center but found herself adjusting it just enough to counter the propeller wash which usually pushed the boat to the right as it was backed down into it's slip in San Diego. She quickly turned and launched herself back to the net. She hurt her left leg as she rushed to put it underneath the railing. She grabbed the net jus

Steven blinked and was about to answer her when Peggy literally jumped and said. “We can try out the rifle, it has the power to shrink or grow larger objects like Sandra's boat. I'll be right back.” And she ran down the stairs.
“O K.” Steven said after Peggy had left. “I guess we are going to use your boat.”
“Do you have any experience with fast boats? Like runabouts, Speedboats?” Sandra asked.
“A little bit.” Steven answered her. “I've rented small ski boats a few times with Peggy for a day out on the lake.”
“Alright, that works. My boat is basically a big ski boat. It was an ocean racing boat before I bought it. The difference is, it has three engines, so you operate three throttles instead of just one. Everything else is very similar to what you are used to working with up here.” Sandra said. “You and Neil shouldn't have too much tr

“Send me up a Drink.” George replied. “Aye, I guess we are.”
One positive outcome of being small seemed to be that G-forces did not affect them as they would have at their normal size. George never felt like he was going to black out, even though he could feel the G's pushing him down in his seat or trying to pull him out of it when he went into negative G's. Yet, even those feelings, of being pushed or pulled by the G-forces did not have the same intensity of feeling they would have if they had been their full natural size.
George let out a laugh. “Ya know, I was worried at first that excessive G's would crush us at this size. Yet as I started to test the plane, I found I could push it harder and harder. It's unbelievable.”
Kim was amazed. “When you factor in our scale here, we have pulled 12 times the number of G's a full scale human military pilot would experience

"Life ain't fair kiddo," Richie said, as he pelted the seven year old with another snowball.
She yelped as the cold snow landed on her pants. "RICHIE!"
"You snooze you lose kiddo!"
At that moment Duncan pulled into the drive. "Da!" Fiona squealed, running to the car.
Duncan lifted her up into his arms. "Hi sweetpea. Are you and your brother having fun?"
"Da! He keeps throwin snowballs at me. An' I haven't gotten him even once!"
Duncan nodded at her. "Well then here is what we'll do," he said, his voice a whisper.
He helped her form a snowball in her hands. "Toss it!" he told her.
The snow missile missed Richie by a few feet.
"Haha you missed--agh!" Richie gasped, coughing, as a snowball hit him directly in the mouth.
Richie spat out the snow. "What the hell?"

A Very Merry Un-Christmas
Fiona was ushered into the house by her Uncle Jim as her Uncle Blair stood at the door with her father, uttering reassurances that she would be okay for a few hours.
Blair knew Duncan was still occasionally loathe to leave the girl alone as she was still regaining what she had lost after Gregor attacked her, but the child had made a lot of progress, including getting a service dog to help her stay independent.
"Hey kiddo," Blair said, as he joined Jim and Fiona on the couch.
"Hi," she chirped in the sing song cadence that was now her voice.
Jim kissed her on the forehead, passing her a mug of hot chocolate. "Hey squirt. Since we won't be able to see you over Christmas, we talked to your father, and he agreed that you should be able to open your presents that are from us today."
"Really?" her eyes sparkled, and she smiled. A second later the smile fell. "But I don't have any presents for you yet."

Richie winced as he heard his sister belting out the lastest song of some pop band, singing along on the radio. She had been in there for hours, listening to that radio and singing along to the songs. He thought his eardrums were going to burst. Time for some redirection.
"Come on Fiona, let's take a walk. It's a nice day out today," he told her as he walked into her room and shut off the radio.
"Awww but that was a good song!"
"I'm sure it will be on again. Come on. Let's go to the park. Maybe we can even stop for some ice cream before dinner… if you don't tell Mac."
As he hurried her out the door, he looked back, only to see Duncan mouth a silent thank you at him. As much as Richie loved his sister, he was thanking whatever deity there was that Fiona's awful singing had stopped.

Fiona shuddered as she drank the pink chalky liquid. Her Da had chased her for fifteen minutes before finally catching her and shoving a spoon in her mouth and pinning her nose closed and holding her mouth shut so she would swallow.
She hastily grabbed the water her Da gave her and gulped all of it down, filling up a second glass and gulping that down as well before she was satisfied her taste buds were cleaned enough and her stomach wouldn't rebel.
She stared at her father a serious look coming over her face. "Da? There are some substances in this world you just shouldn't drink. This is one of them."

"Okay," said Fiona, determination setting in on her features.
He let go and… she immediately fell like a stone in a river.
Richie sighed. "Maybe we should call it a day kiddo?"
"No. I'm not stopping til I can ride!"
He sighed again. "Okay Fiona."
Even though they had already been at this for two hours they continued on.
"Okay Fiona," Richie said at seven o'clock that night. "One more time and that's it. We have to go inside."
"But--"
"No buts. You have to go to bed soon, and I need to go home."
Fiona sighed. "Alright. But don't let go until I'm ready."

The four year old took the pencil from him, and began dutifully copying the letters. "Is that good?" she asked him a few moments later.

"Well how much money did you bring?"
"Five dollars."
"Then you can get five dollars worth."
"Kay… how much is that?"
"A pound is five dollars," said the store clerk helpfully.
If it was possible Fiona's eyes got even bigger. "All that candy?"
She walked up and down the aisles, looking. "ooh! Can we get some chocolate covered cookies?"
Richie chuckled. "Sure."
"Watermelon gumballs! …Nah I don't eat them anyway… oooh Swedish fish!"
They spent nearly an hour in the store, but finally they were done and Fiona hauled her bag of candy to the register, where the clerk weighed it.

He supposed it was because he had to work in the public eye all day… not that he didn't have to do it when Mac and Tessa ran the antique store, but it was different somehow.
"Rich, I am going out to the store I will be back in twenty minutes. Watch your sister."

He didn't hear anything more, aside from small sounds coming from one of the bedrooms. As long as he heard noise from somewhere it meant she was okay. He yawned again and shifted on the couch, trying to get more comfortable.

Immortalized
I write in a diary every night. In fact, what I am writing now is in a diary! It's a way for me to say 'I am here. I existed.'
Richie thinks it's dumb. But he doesn't know why I do it. He's immortal, and if he doesn't get his head lopped off, he'll live forever. So will my Da, and my Uncle Connor, my Uncle Adam and my Aunt Amanda. But I won't. I am mortal. And some day  I will die. I was very close to death, awhile back, and it scared them. Scared me too actually. But I want to be remembered. And this is the only way I know how to be.
Maman was an artist, and one of her sculptures is in the park. She will be immortalized forever, because of her art. But all I have is this diary. And that's okay.
I want copies to be made of this diary, of each of my diaries really. So that my Uncles and my aunt remember me. So they know there was a Fiona Noelle MacLeod, adopted daughter of Immortal Duncan MacLeod, niece of Immortals Connor MacLeod, Amanda DeLacroix, and Adam Pierson aka Methos

Adoption
Duncan sat with Fiona in the courtroom, wondering why he had waited so long to do this. Maybe it was because he feared the child losing the memory of her parents. But then the little one had started calling him Da, soon after she turned six, and he had started proceedings to formally adopt the child as his own. Upon looking at her birth certificate he had remembered that she had no middle name, and that William had agonized over what name to give the baby waiting to come into the world. Sarah didn't seem to care, and upon asking Duncan's advice both men had tossed around names until Duncan had said 'Fiona'.
"That's it!" William had shouted with great joy. "That will be her name!"
And when they had filled out the birth certificate and announced to family and friends their bundle of joy's name, they said "Fiona Johnson."
That was it. No middle name. But the child didn't really need one, at least not until now.

This has pictures of his car from the accident. I tried to find an article I read the same day without images of the car, but cannot find them. This is the accident:

Please bare in mind that the images could be disturbing even though they show no body, it is just the car. I am Jacobites Daughter in law.

Thank you so much for the Llama, and the faves Although my own attempt at drawing, "Just my size" was horrible. The Low Road is my attempt at writing, and folks seem to enjoy it. There are two galleries for the Low Road, What I originally published 10 years ago, and my current revisions as I am trying to finish the tale and hopefully publish it.

While it is a story about the 1745 Jacobite rebellion, I'm not a Scot's Nationalist :) I'm very much a Unionist, when it comes to Britain. My father was English. While I was born in Scotland (Family tradition on my Mother's side, I was born in an estate house owned by maternal relatives in Rutherglen.) I have pretty much lived my whole life in the United States. Visited my family on both sides of the Tweed many times over my formative years for long summer holidays. My favorite spots in Britain are actually England's canal system and Wales (Castles and landscape are fantastic there.)

Thanks for visiting. And I will check out your page as well. I see ya love Disney. I live in California, so Disneyland has always been one of my favorite haunts out here. :)

Cheers
