Have you ever come across an idea you thought was gonna be bad but it turns out well in the end? This is what you get when you turn an animated series that should've ended right now into a Broadway musical.
Now when I was a kid, I was a huge fan of SpongeBob SquarePants. I'm not the biggest fan of the show nowadays mostly because they dumbed it down for children, but only rare now is a modern episode good. :/
I'm also a fan of stage musicals. I went to a lot of them and I enjoy all kinds, whether they'd be amateur or professional.
When I heard of a musical based on SpongeBob was happening, I thought "Oh my god this is gonna blow," cause this is SpongeBob on Broadway! How can you make an idea like this good?! Luckily they did. They had various artist do the songs like Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, John Legend, Alex Ebert and even the rapper T.I and features "No Control" by David Bowie! Sounds like some good people.
The costumes are also well done. I got Seussical vibes from them because you can look at the costumes and tell who they're supposed to be, my favorite being Squidward. The actor who plays him wears specially made pants that gives him extra legs and I think it looks cool.
Overall, I did hear good things about it, and maybe if they play their cards right, it can be a good musical based on a cartoon like You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and The Addams Family.
