Jupiter model matte painting

This was matte painting in the good old days. I painted a 3 foot model of the planet Jupiter for a German FX company. I used Gauche which was great because it had a nice shine but was much faster drying than other colours.

The planet model was filmed later using a motion control camera. Painting more than a week on that model almost drove me nuts, so I finally added my name somewhere in the cloud formations near the big red spot

Those were the days before Internet and CG, so we had to rely for information in books and TV. Please note the book with NASA photos that I used for references.

Sorry for the bad image quality...but it was way beyond digital photography
