Dead Waves, Chapter 4: Underneath Cimmerian Skies
Trail to Pavement. Small Town. Spires in Wine Colored Water.
Dell followed the trail.
The path lazily zigged and zagged, heading further south, further down. The azure sun's light faded, and the gloom ascended. The grey gave way to cimmerian, and the light from the star disappeared. The coral forests they passed through were thinned and culled away, allowing the truck to pass through. As they plunged, the air became thicker and hotter, and the fog clung over everything like wet hands. Dell felt his clothes grow damp, and Domitia's raven-black armor gained a sheen from the humidity.
Driving the truck challenged Dell's understanding of physics. It simply defied his every want and desire. He could feel his blood boil as he jerked the damn machine away from where it wanted to roam. Part of it was the trail itself; rocks, debris, and potholes littered the path, causing the truck to bounce, squeak, and moan. The other half was down to the truck's own wear and tear.
