No Christmas season should have the manger scene left out of it. Christmas without Christ is no Christmas at all! Here I have another casting by my Toad couple. First there was the Nutcracker and the Sugar Plum Fairy, then there was the Grinch and his dog, now its Joseph and Mary with the infant Savior in Bethlehem.
I wanted to add more Toads to the scene, specifically cast as the three wise men and a couple of shepherds, but my mind was at a blank on ideas on how to implement it. I also couldn't bear to cast the baby Jesus as another Toad either . . . it didn't feel right. I also had drawn a few Toad angels too, but I decided I didn't like the style, feeling as though they looked more like Cupid (the Toad angels from yesterday were better).
Today happens to be the 49th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, by the way. December 23, 1972 marks the day of a wacky play at the very end (five-seconds-left very end, that is) of a playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. This play turned in the Steelers' favor, as they scored a touchdown to win the game. The name given to this pay was due to it being right before Christmas, as the virgin birth foretold in Isaiah 7 is known as the "Immaculate Conception."
Only two more drawings left!
