Photoshop CS5 and Wacom Cintiq About a bazillion hours
The idea behind the work is an expression of my realisation that, at some point, self-censorship of my art becomes pointless. "Damn it!" I said to myself one day, "I'm a grown man. If I want to draw naked ladies in my sketch books then I'm allowed!"
I originally came up with this back in January 2011. I abandoned it at some point shortly after doing the lineart for it. A couple of weeks ago I looked at it and thought it'd make a good digital painting exercise. I ignored the existing lineart and just painted directly over the original, far less detailed, pencil sketch I'd scanned in. It took a lot of tweaking, but I'm very happy with how it's come out.
It's probably apparent that I've never done any life drawing. This was really the first time I've attempted anything like this or attempted a proper painterly style so the proportions (despite my constant tweaking) are probably way off. The rubberised spine, however, is a feature of style and a choice I made, rather than a mistake.
I just threw the background together, so I may yet come up with something better. I'm gonna also put together a WIP file to upload.
