you should do more Gargoyles characters... i would love to see them through your eyes

Demona is a complicated villain. She is evil, crazy and tragic. It's tragic that she and Goliath's relationship changed from lovers to enemies.
Fortunately, she still has a daughter, which makes her not completely lose her humanity.

Resemblance to actual art style for the characters is uncanny. One of my favorite shows from 90s. It made me more interested in Shakespeare as I got older. Episodes also took on different meanings too.

City of Stone - all four parts - finally present the story behind the words "Know her... I named her..."

disney in the 90's was epic - their movies are still brilliant but now instead of this classic series we get teeny bopper/wanna be play boy cover girls miley cyrus and the rest of them
disney why?!?! your tv used to be so good what the hell happened?!

Great work! You really captured the Marvel style versions of these two. I like your take on these Gargoyles and hooray for Gargoyles fandom.

I wish you much success in your sketchbook sales by the way. ^_^

I think I love you. When this was showing it was my no.1 favourite tv show. The splatter looks like flying debris, how'd you control it so well? My only peeve is that Demona doesn't look quite like her conniving spiteful self and a bit too human and demure, in contrast Goliath's more gargoyle-ish feet are huge next to hers.
GoliathsBane975 Featured By Owner Oct 22, 2010
I'm having flashbacks of Dick Tracy mixed with a Vogue cover spread...seriously, I'm feeling some serious nostalgia here. Almost like a detective serial circa 1938, with Madison Avenue overtones. The design is almost art-deco, what with the heavy-to-delicate lines and modest (if any) shading, and the tone is one of prowess and control. Demona is, of course, the centerpiece, her body-language proud and commanding. She is tall, erect and curvaceous, one hand on her cocked hips as she becks to some unseen entity or crowd (admittedly, the line "Fly, fly my pretties, FLY!" does come to mind). Her eyes, lips and hair are reminiscent of Maleficent from SLEEPING BEAUTY; scorchingly beautiful and arched with class and intelligence, yet smothered in a wicked, almost Black Widow-esque contempt for life and all things pure. The subtle shine upon her legs, anklet, stomach and crown, combined with the seemingly random black sprinkle pattern across the breadth of the page would indicate that she is standing before a scene of destruction, with debris and ash fluttering through the air as she watches. The red of her hair is further highlighted by this supposition, as well as the purple backdrop which would suggest smoke and the haze of battle. This scene obviously predates the creation of the Manhattan Clan, because Goliath still stands at her side...or rather, at her rear. He seems to be appraising Demona rather than the scene in front of her. His gaze and smile seem to suggest admiration at first, but given the heat and intensity of the moment, it may be more lustful than he is willing to admit. His face is heavily creased and sharpened, much like a stone sculpture would be. But his face is a throwback to the days when comics all had the same male protagonist in them, with different professions. Whether they were scientists or cops or explorers or soldiers, they all had a hard-boiled, I've-been-to-hell-and-back look that commanded respect. Clint Eastwood still has that look, and Goliath has it now. The proportions are somewhat varied, but every bit of Goliath's commanding presence is evident here; the stout frame, dense musculature and stone-like facade combined with broad wings and Raptor-like claws are the calling cards of this massive Gargoyle. However it is the subdued (though still plainly obvious) sexual nature of the piece that captures the attention of the viewer, not only in its depiction, but also in its derision. Goliath is clearly enraptured with the beautiful, commanding, electrifying young Gargoyle before him. Demona, on the other hand, is obviously more aroused by the destruction and decay she has created off-screen. In fact, she is on tip-toes from the anticipation of what might happen next and she seems like she may collapse from the raw, potent energy of the battle is, indeed, a very disturbing precursor of events yet to come.
What an excellent, captivating example of your work Mr. Campbell, full of diversity and life. Well done sir.

So I must say that this picture is absolutely beautiful. As a Fan from the very first Friday afternoon airing of Gargoyles way back in 1994, I saw this picture and was thrilled to see this piece of artwork. It also inspired me to draw Demona as her evil self. [link] So I was wondering if you would mind if I colored this for my own personal practice? Of course I could post it afterwards to show you how it turns out, again, with your permission. Thank you in advance.

Have you ever seen that wife swap where the
woman flips out about the family she had to stay
with, yelling out, "EVERYTHING WAS DARK SIDED!!!
SLYKIKS AND GARGYLES!" [she meant psychics and
gargoyles lol] With the 'o' hidden behind Demona,
this was my first thought. Lol.
^if you are clueless, this is

That aside, I love you so hard for this. Great show I
adored when I was a kid =) They look right at home
in your style.
