Cue ominous music.

Another earth mover design, this time set with an entirely new angle (high zoom perspective) and a daybreak lighting scheme. The perspective was gained by making a simple model in google sketchup based off of [link] and basically improving the aesthetic qualities of the design.

Brilliant! What kind of technics you used? I don't get it.

Thanks! It's a digital painting; I used Photoshop.

Well, I didn´t see it. Wow.

awesome concept, especially for the taxpayers buying the fuel for that thing ;)

Nice work!

I really love how you use "onlookers" to portray height comparison and perspective. I think the works wouldn't be complete without them.

The lighting is sublime.

my favorites folder might start to look like a Vonmurder plug if you keep this up

I love the mood,
I looks cold and harsh but I bet it's nice inside the ship.
I like that technological feature, where the ship can be doing all kinds of hellish things but the drivers are comfortable inside.
Cool design, very inspiring!

Wow, this is just awesome!
Reminds me somehow a lil of this huge Decepticon-machine from the Transformers 2 movie....just cos it was huge and awesome too.;)

Haha, danke. I don't have mechanical testicles on this thing though.

Very nice. The lighting is excellent, but the machine itself looks a bit unrealistic with the 360 arm design.
J-Humphries's avatar
Thanks. Why do you think that it's unrealistic?
ctrl-4lt-d3l's avatar
How would you mine effectively with the different tools hanging all around in different directions and angles?
J-Humphries's avatar
The arms are on built on a swivel, which rotates them into position. Also, the arms themselves can lift and fold up so they don't bump into things as the mechanism turns.
ctrl-4lt-d3l's avatar
Still, it seems awfully inefficient.
J-Humphries's avatar
How is it inefficient to have one machine that can do several different things? Are you applying current technological standards to a futuristic design? That's more than a bit silly when you consider that the technology that could be employed in my design is fictional, and hence cant be scrutinized much from an engineering standpoint without first actually designing the thing. Or look at it this way: you own a mine and you can either buy six different machines (each for a single task), or one with a multifarious and modular arm system that's linked to an AI core that can coordinate the arms to work in harmony. It's like a Dremel tool- you can swap out arms for different tasks.

Yeah, that part makes sense, but that amount of horsepower you'd have to have to move that thing 360 degrees every time you needed to do something would be ridiculous.
