This was part of a full mage cycle series I did for Wizards. It was really fun to do! It was my first time doing basically full on character design rather than just illustration for them. I tried to really boil down the style and feel of the different elemental types. I also had to do them all in a pretty tight time constraint, it was a challenge!

Of this cycle Onyx mage was actually my favorite but this one was still very cool. I wish I could get this level of realism out of my digital stuff. Still learning there.

I like the fact that the circular nature of the fire keeps the eye moving which is always my concern with character illustrations like this. He's off center and his pose really feels red. Thanks for sharing man.
