Oh the Smaugness by IZRA Oh the Smaugness by IZRA
never since the ending of Inception have i seen such unanimous theater crowd reaction. but unlike Inception, this was mostly negative. i mean i was under the impression that the smaug thing would get covered in this film, but nearing the last 30 minutes of the film i realize that they were making a makeshift climax to this film. and indeed that it was.

truth be told the film was enjoyable. it was filled with padding just like the first Hobbit film but this time to me it felt like more interesting padding. its both weird and interesting, to see the world of Tolkien padded by Fanfiction. check out Legolas, hes playing with all cheats on LOL. it mostly fits in but i am still of the mind that this should have been a two film affair. i will say that Smaug was boss. best part of the film…until it descends into a looney tunes routine.

im kinda dreading going to see the third one a theaters. i half expect for Peter Jackson to surprise us with another cliffhanger “hey guys go see the next films. im sure it will be the last one .teehee”

Oh dear, you made Smaug into Cumberbatch...wait...

Kidding, I love your comic ^^ and the last reaction pannel is priceless, I could use that line XD

Now, for the opinion stuff: personnally, when I went to the Paris premiere, the crowd reacted really positively, there were cheers and applauses and stuff...
I suppose since we knew there would be 3 films, we all thought "well I'll enjoy all I can"...personnally, I dreaded that all the story would be finished in this movie and that the third would be only the return of Bilbo to the Shire and the events during the next 60 years...I was gladly surprised ^^

A friend of mine who saw it first warned me about the ending in a spoiler so I wouldn't go berserk. I guess it was a precaution on his part! Wink/Razz  It was still fun listening to other people in the theater go wild though! :D  I would bet money that the whole gold-plated dragon setup was just so Peter Jackson could get up at the premiere & say "Look, he really is Smaug the Golden!" Oh yeah. Yay. Good for you.

All in the cinema felt like this too. I was really angry that they didn't show us how all people there die.

"Go fuck yourself smart guy" usually. But my smug superiority in being able to see the future when they could not makes me cackle madly so it evens out.

Ugh. That cliffhanger! Right when I was getting really excited for a certain battle which I will not mention because it involves spoilers, the movie ended! Why Peter Jackson?! :(

as stated there, i did enjoy the movie. but the river fight was very silly , enjoyable but silly. i mean they were getting to Batman and Robin levels of sillyness

I'm afraid this another example of "everyone else curses this film to Hell but I think it was just okay."  Funny comic though.

My theater didn't make a sound when the cliffhanger happened.  In fact, I kinda chuckled because it felt just like a cliffhanger in a 2-episode story for a TV show.  The audience didn't even make an extreme reaction.  ....but then I go online and see everyone ranting and complaining til the sun rises about how awful it was and I'm thinking, ".......... what were you expecting, guys??? ...........................  we KNEW this one book would be in 3 movies!  ........... "  Yes it was a poor, sell-out decision, but................ what were they expecting?!

actually , now that think of it more, i can see why everyone was expecting...something more epic. two things that seemed to factor in:  you pointed out that it felt like a Tv show ending, and i realize that the whole movie felt like it was stitch together from a tv show. hence they give out alot of exposition time to Bards story, they show he has the arrow which hints at his redemption arc. and this works on a Tv format  but on a movie it probably misslead the audience into thinking i twas going to be resolve on this movie.

the second is that the expectations set up by the previous LOTR trilogy.  each sequel raising the stakes on its climax. the first hobbit had a "meh" climax but it was ok for the start of the trilogy, the second one well kinda feels on the same scale .  i'm assuming alot of the people in my audience didnt read the book. two of my friends sure didn't and were very dissapointed. but when i ask them why it had to do more with the fact that they didn't like that last bit of the dragon chase, rather than the fact that they didn't kill him. again, they were expecting something more epic.

im pretty sure that when all the movies are out there's going to be a fan edit which condenses them into a single movie, and it would probably work better , becasue as it is,  the narrative suffers
