Baphomet is a term originally used to describe an idol or other deity that the Knights Templar were accused of worshiping, and subsequently incorporated into occult and mystical traditions. It appeared as a term for a pagan idol in trial transcripts of the Inquisition of the Knights Templar in the early 14th century. The name first came into popular English usage in the 19th century, with debate and speculation on the reasons for the suppression of the Templars. Since 1856, the name Baphomet has been associated with a "Sabbatic Goat" image drawn by Eliphas Lévi, which contains binary elements representing the "sum total of the universe" (e.g. male and female, good and evil, etc.). Alternately, the Baphomet has also been known as "The Goat of Mendes" (Mendes being the greek name for the egyptian city of Djedet). The figure of Baphomet also plays an important role in the Thelema, as in Magic(k) Alesteir Crowley writes:
The Devil does not exist. It is a false name invented by the Black Brothers to imply a Unity in their ignorant muddle of dispersions. A devil who had unity would be a God... 'The Devil' is, historically, the God of any people that one personally dislikes... This serpent, SATAN, is not the enemy of Man, but He who made Gods of our race, knowing Good and Evil; He bade 'Know Thyself!' and taught Initiation. He is 'The Devil' of the Book of Thoth, and His emblem is BAPHOMET, the Androgyne who is the hieroglyph of arcane perfection... He is therefore Life, and Love. But moreover his letter is ayin, the Eye, so that he is Light; and his Zodiacal image is Capricornus, that leaping goat whose attribute is Liberty. In my Original Story, the CUETZPALIN Mythos, the Baphomet is the entity which original form is the first Vovin Crystal of the DARR hidden element (here shown at the upper left corner. It's an egg shaped stone called Baihu [White Tiger in Chinese], that's also been labeled as 'Calculus Candidus' [White Stone in Latin], and is thought to be the very Philosopher's Stone of the alchemists) - That's why it has a partially mineral appearance. Like the other entities whose original forms are the five original hidden element Vovin Crystals, the Baphomet has been awaken by a massive sacrifice offered to its stone form, which, in Baphomet's case, happened in 4030 a.X (1130 a.I), in the town of Novgarchern, in Eastern Europe, a sacrifice led by Palarokhian alchemist Nicholas Flamel. During that time, the Baihu was held under the guard of Topakar/Palarokhian Vovin magician Snogard, who intended to deliver it to the Primordial Vovin, Tupaq, who was then trapped in the Absolute Darkness. What happened, though, is that other Palarokhian magicians, believing that such stone was the answer for several of their alchemical questions (the alternate name for the Darr hidden element is 'Panacea'), stole it from Snogard, and desperately, led it to Novgarchern, an Eastern Christian Town, where they activated a proccess which consumed all life on it and transferred to the stone, from where the Baphomet awoke.
From this episode, there were blood covenants being done by Palarokhians to the entity, that detained their souls in exchange of access to powers related to the Darr hidden element, such as telekinesis and necromancy. The covenant works in a way that if the Baihu is heatened and Baphomet eventually wakes, all those who made the covenant, no matter where they are in the universe, fall asleep and drown in unconsciousness. When the stone is cold and Baphomet is in slumber, they are active and have the Darr hidden element's powers. From its awakening, the Baphomet has acquired many followers out of the occult Palarokhian Order, which original 'master and promised source of power' was the Primordial Vovin, and original goal was freeing it from the Absolute Darkness, what resulted in a schism within the order. Those who followed the Baphomet have called magicians, alchemists, occultists, wizards, necromancers, divinators, scriers and witches from several traditions into the building of the Baphomet's Temple, at the remains of the town of Novgarchern. The Baphomet's Temple stood as a fortress of resistance of magic practicioners against the persecution they suffered from eastern and western christendom, and they held the Baihu, stolen from Snogard, for centuries. There were Palarokhians among the followers of Baphomet that still followed as well the original goals of the Palarokhian Order, and it would be a matter of time for the Baihu to fall in Palarokhian hands again. Eventually, one of the Palarokhian Grandmasters, Raakon, has himself made a blood covenant with the Baphomet to escape alive from the inquisitorial fires.
In 4242 a.X (1342 a.I), Tupaq has been finally freed, after 3000 years of confinement, from the Absolute Darkness, and incarnated in a human body, who claimed the leadership of the Palarokhian Order as its grandmaster, and eventually gathered the domains and lands from other Palarokhian landlords, besides using necromancy to expand them, forming the Palarokhian Empire. During that time, the Black Death (which is nothing but the increase of fabrication and usage of Duskoplasm by Darr-manipulating Palarokhian necromancers) stroke at Europe, as a result. The Palarokhian Empire would apparently rule over Europe and then the world, as the medics and other authorities of the church-related nations were blind to what caused the spread of the 'disease', rather using it as an excuse to the persecution of heathens and jews, but fortunately, a pack of autonomous smugglers, thieves, villains and rogue knights, the 'Schwarze Ritter' have formed in Eastern Teutonia, originally led by Drachniden, from Ulhen, and have done series of direct actions against both Palarokhian Empire and Christian Kingdoms. Tupaq, however, would leave his Empire in search for the Me (Gifts of Civilization crafted by the Anunnaki King Anu during the Ancient Topakhon Wars) - not before visiting the Baphomet's Temple and using the Baihu to transform his human incarnation into a Vovin. The side effects of such usage of the Baihu (because Tupaq already have an Ater Adamantis - the supposed union and original state of the five hidden elements) have made the Baphomet able to transform into whatever hidden element it chooses, and as well to access all their powers and properties, making it almost invincible. From this transformation, the Baphomet has developed the caduceus-like structure in its body, besides the pentagram on its head.
Known people who have made covenants with the Baphomet are the first generation of the Schwarze Ritter (including Drachniden, who would die in the crumbling fortress of the Palarokhian Empire, if not saved by the covenant) and several members of the Valtheran family, from the late 18th Century lords who have supported the Socialist Revolution of Palarokhiel (that has ultimately statized the Baphomet's Temple and confiscated the Baihu for the use of State officials) to their 20th Century descendants, such as UTSST's General Ollantay Valtheran.
The figure of the Baphomet shows us that there aren't absolute, binary opposing principles (such as 'man and woman', 'good and evil'), unlike what the monotheist and rationalist religions/language systems/creeds (such as modern science, christianity, zoroastrianism, atenism, judaism, islamism) try to enforce (for example, by defining two possible genders in a social organization), but rather a larger diversity of complementary principles.
