Redline by Barberi by itsago Redline by Barberi by itsago
I made time to attend Wizard World Sacramento two weeks ago. The convention was something of a mixed bag; there were toys and tchtockes as far as the eye could see, but comics themselves were in short supply. However, on the plus side, I was able to meet and get my photo taken with the spectacularly lovely Hayley Atwell (a.k.a. Agent Carter) and score three tremendous commissions.

This rendition of Redline by the talented :iconcarlobarberiart: is the first piece I purchased at the show. I've been a fan of Carlo's work for some time and, when I saw he'd be in Artist's Alley, I put commissioning him at the very top of my to-do list -- and, as you can see, he certainly did not disappoint. I dropped off my payment and refs Friday evening, and had this phenomenal piece in hand by Saturday afternoon.

Thanks Jamie! And you're right about the pose -- I think Carlo did a good job of making an effective action pose in a small space.

When you get characters commissioned, do you bring a picture of that character as reference to the show? Or how does that work?

These days, I bring a printed copy of this design sheet: Redline: Reference Art 2014 by itsago  with me when I'm looking to get a commission of Redline.
I have other, more basic, reference sheets for many of my other characters -- like this one for Black Phoenix: Black Phoenix: Reference Art by itsago  On occasion, I also bring a photo or two of an actor/actress with a similar look to the character. Some artists enjoy having stuff like that to springboard off of.
