What could have been: A Scourge Story (Chapter 4)“Just a little more, Tinypaw! You almost had that mouse!” Whitepaw said encouragingly. Tinypaw had been trying to master the hunter’s crouch.
“You need to get lower to the ground so you don’t startle them.” Bluefur said, putting a paw on his back.
Tinypaw noticed a small squirrel. Determinedly, he assumed the crouch again. He crept slowly towards it, and just managed to get it.
“Look, I got it!” Tinypaw mewed through the squirrel’s fur. He dropped his catch in front of Bluefur.
“Nice job.”Patchpelt said approvingly. Bluefur smiled again. His first catch… no, I really shouldn’t be thinking this, Bluefur thought. Perhaps this was why parents never mentored their kits. But he wasn’t her kit. Not exactly.
“What else can we hunt?” Tinypaw asked.
“All sorts of things. Rabbits, thrushes, shrews, even frogs!” Whitepaw laughed. Patchpelt stepped closer to Bluefur.
What could have been: A Scourge Story (Chapter 3)“Bluefur, what are you doing here?” Bluefur snapped awake to see her sister staring down at her in confusion. Bluefur scrambled up, almost hitting Tinykit.
“I… um. Look, I’ll tell you later. Something really awful could have happened.” Bluefur said, lowering her voice to a whisper because Whitekit had just woken up.
“Hey! Do I get to be an apprentice today?”Whitekit asked, jumping in between them. Snowfur jumped back.
“How many times must I tell you? I said in a quarter moon!” Snowfur said, exasperated. What a ball of energy that one, Bluefur thought. She tried to walk out of the den, but Tinykit had latched on to her paw with his small claws.
“Hey, where are you going? Can I come? I fought off a huge bird you know!” He mewed excitedly. Bluefur smiled.
“I bet you did. But you can’t now, you have to wait until you become an apprentice, then your mentor will take you out to hunt.” Bluefur replied,
What could have been: A Scourge Story (Chapter 2)The moon was very bright that night, and the stars shone steadily in the sky. Bluefur slunk out of the Warriors den, pleased to find that Thistleclaw wasn’t in his nest. She could get some evidence against him, and then Snowfur would see what a hedgehog he was.
She quickly padded over to the apprentices den. Surprisingly, Tigerpaw was sound asleep. Perhaps this was part of the plan, for Thistleclaw to go first.
“Sleep tight, Tiger.” Bluefur whispered before moving on again.
Bluefur walked behind the nursery, trying her best not to step on any twigs. She would look suspicious too if she was found slinking around at night.
Just then, she heard whispering. She flattened herself to the ground, so as not to be seen.
“Now, you remember what we’ll do?” She could hear Thistleclaw’s harsh voice. Tigerpaw sounded offended at his question.
“Of course I do!” He said, rather loudly. Bluefur could hear Snowfur and the kits in the nursery stirring
What could have been: A Scourge Story (Chapter 1)“Bluefur, please follow me.”
Sunstar led her between the crowd of surprised cats, who were all meowing or hissing.
“I’m sorry, Sunstar. It just didn’t feel right leaving the kit alone to die.” Bluefur said, wincing. Sunstar sighed heavily.
“I understand what you mean. But think what the other clans will say!” Sunstar replied, sitting down in the corner of the den. Bluefur rolled her eyes.
“It doesn’t matter what they say! Thunderclan will have another warrior for its ranks!” Bluefur reasoned, stepping closer to the leader.
“Alright then, Bluefur. This kit shall be allowed to stay in the clan.” Sunstar said quietly. He flicked his tail, gesturing for her to leave. Bluefur nodded, and padded out of the den.
She had dropped the kit off in the nursery, with Snowfur and Whitekit. Tiny was play fighting with him, and he looked much happier.
“Hello, Bluefur. You never told me what happened to him.” She s

“Will you stop it?!? It’s only a kit.” Bluefur said, leaping in front of the small black tom kit.
Tigerpaw grumbled, obviously annoyed. He didn’t see anything wrong with defending the clan’s territory.
Thistleclaw turned to look at Bluefur. He glared at her.
“It’s only a kit now, Bluestar. If we don’t stop him, he’ll grow up and think it’s alright to come into our land!” Thistleclaw yowled, getting very close to Bluefur’s face.
“Come on, let’s go! I need to practice so I can hunt better than any of the other apprentices!” Tigerpaw meowed. Thistleclaw nodded, looking very proud of his apprentice.
“Are you coming, Bluefur?” Thistleclaw turned around, for Bluefur had not yet moved. She turned to look at the two.
“I’ll be there in a moment. I’m going to see if any other kittypets might want to come in here so I can tell them not to.” Bluefur
