The Farmers by ISignRob The Farmers by ISignRob
Personal project. The sketch is available some deviations before. You can see it here: [link]

Robots are created to make wars instead of humans. But things run out of control, and mankind itself is in danger. So, a great effort is started to contain the threat of the robots, but without destroying them...they are reprogrammed to do basic activities, so the remaining humans could restart their lives.

60% done in Painter with a Wacom Bamboo Fun, 30% graphite on paper and 10% in Photoshop.

Comments and critiques are very welcome

:icongimmefeedback:
I'm planning to do a series of drawings like this one, with robots helping in early civilization tasks, like looming, fishing, blacksmiting etc., and since it's one of my first robot designs, I really want to do more complex and interesting designs to the other tasks...Could it be steampunk? Transformers? Jetsons? I want to hear you =D And also about the wheat field, how could I make it look better?

Cheers!!

UPLOADED: Many many thanks for all the feedbacks I've got and for the Daily Deviation! You guys rock! =D

UPLOADED 2: You can see the next installment of the series, The Fshermen, here =D

The Farmers by *resenhista
The suggester says: A futuristic, almost post-apocalyptic world where, instead of robots trying to destroy the humans, they've been reprogrammed into simpler tasks to help the remaining humans live together in peace. Visually stunning and eerie at the same time. ( Suggested by Raithe and Featured by gucken )

Okay, about the robots. Nothing wrong with them. But if you want to make things diffently (aka me giving a personal opinion), expose more of the machine (more structural parts exposed as wires, bolts, pipes, etc.

The interesting about robots is that they don´t necessarly need an outer shell... so play a little with the inside out feeling (Pompidou center for example).

The wheat needs to have a upper layer where you use a thin brush... it will help.

Cara... o trabalho está muito bom, mas vc tem que melhor os caules do trigo que ficou grosso. Peço desculpas, mas prometo que vou responder o comentário que fez antes.

Feliz Natal e um feliz Ano Novo.

Wow amazing! the concept is brilliant. I hope this doesn't offend you, but this picture immediatly made me think of something i remembered from an old TV show called 'Samurai Jack'. I looked for it and found the robots that remind me of your picture. [link] :38

Ah! Finally someone said a reference I know about! haha
Now that you said, it really reminds, and I even do remember these robots of the show! But it doesn't offend at all, don't worry ;)
But Samurai Jack wasn't amongst my references, although it's pretty close to ;)

Thanks a lot for your words!

This definitely gives off a steampunk vibe to me. I'm really digging the two robots in the foreground, however, the third in the background feels slightly out of place to me, but I can't pin-point why. But overall, amazing job, much better than I could hope to do.

Maybe the one in background is a little more blurred than the 2 in the foreground, maybe he's in motion...I don't know either =]

Hm. Being a guy addicted to sci-fi of the post apocalyptic variety, I am quite intrigued by your backstory of machines actually doing their job instead of going haywire. Also, I love the design on the machines, I could see the parts where apparently the tools were welded on the arms, but realistically? Even a three fingered hand wouldn't be that hard to produce if you could create a machine like that to begin with, and it would make the machine a better worker able to use a variety of tools as the job required. I love the storm and the wheat feild, though, the feild looks a little to stiff and cluttered. I mean, it seems as if a storm is about to blow in, yet there is no wind hitting the plants. I dont see anything wrong with the colors per say, but the fact the wheat seems so stiff is one thing to consider for future works. :) I hope I dont sound too critical, but all in all I love this.

No absolutely not, say what you want to say ;)...as I said, it was the first time I've drawn a wheat field in my life...I've looked for references, but it was just too difficult...That's why I'm planning to do some upgrades on that drawing sooner or later ;)
And it was first time doing an entire robot design...I did one earlier on a dog (you can find it on my gallery...the name is Nero), but it was just for one arm and a leg, nothing too fancy...that's why I chose a rather simple, yet apparently charismatic design...Most of my works are about have something to share between the characters and the viewers, whether it's a robot, a cartoon, or an alien...but in the next future works, this will be upgraded as well =]

I'm really glad for knowing you liked my work, and also for knowing you liked it to the point of sharing your opinion, this is really helpful and motivating =D

Cheers from Brazil!!

:) not a problem. But I liked the robots not only for they're pleasant and very nice design but also they're praticallity in a combat situation. Light, nimble, and functional :).
