In this tutorial, I will explain how to get a Geoshell that was designed to work with Genesis 8 onto Genesis 8.1.
If a G8 Geoshell is applied to G8.1, the torso area appears grey. This is because 8.1's torso area is named differently and divided into two sections. The Geoshell doesn't recognize these new areas.
Thankfully there is an easy fix.
NOTE: This only works for Iray render.
Step 1: Load both figures
Load both a Genesis 8 and a Genesis 8.1 figure into the scene.
Apply the Geoshell to both figures.
Above: Genesis 8 (left) and Genesis 8.1 (right) with the same Geoshell applied. I used a dirt geoshell which was designed for Genesis 8 figures.
Step 2: Apply Iray Uber Base to relevant areas
We are going to be copying and pasting the unaffected G8 Geoshell torso, onto the effected torso of the G8.1 Geoshell.
For this to work, we need to give all areas the same base shader. We will use Iray Uber Base, which will not change the look or function of the Geoshell.
Select G8 Geoshell.
Go to Surfaces tab on the right of your screen, and select the 'Torso' area of the G8 Geoshell.
Also go to your Content Library tab, and search "iray uber base". If you have all Daz Studio default essentials installed, it will come up.
Making sure 'Torso' of Geoshell is still selected in the Surfaces tab, double click Iray Uber Base, which will apply it.
Select 8.1 Geoshell.
Repeat the previous steps, except now apply Iray Uber Base to both 'Body' and 'Head' sections of the G8.1 Geoshell.
Step 3: Copy and Paste
Select G8 Geoshell. Find 'Torso' section under Surfaces tab again. Right click, and "Copy Selected Surface(s)".
Select 8.1 Geoshell. Find 'Body' and 'Head' sections under Surfaces tab again. Right click, and "Paste Selected Surface(s)" onto both of these.
You should see that the grey area has disappeared. If not, go back and make sure iray uber base is definitely applied to all three areas (G8 Geoshell Torso, G8.1 Geoshell Body, and G8.1 Geoshell Head) before copying and pasting. It won't work unless you do this step.
Above: Now the Geoshell works perfectly on Genesis 8.1.
Stay tuned for more mini tutorials in the future.

Wait, so it's not *just* a grouping issue, but also a shader one? That's pretty surprising.
