Gnarled spear ..

Does anyone have a clue what could have caused this and how I would go about fixing it? All I did was load the spear prop from the VaL Spartana set. There doesn't seem to be a twist dial .. and it actually looks normal in the preview. It only looks like this when I render.

When you render, did you select displacement in your render options? I know sometimes that can royally mess up a mesh (man I'm glad I'm typing and I don't have to try to say that... ).

Lmao. You mean displacement maps? I did and do! That's one of the boxes I tick with each render. I decided to attempt to render the spear without it ticked, but it didn't make a difference to the spear. It was still all gnarly looking.

Ok, I'm reading more, it could be your Smooth Polygon setting in Firefly, try unchecking it. Here is a basic render tutorial I was reading to brush up on render settings (I tend to forget): [link]

Hope that helps!

I followed this tip, rendered the spear, and it came out normal! Now I wonder what figures will look like without that checked. I plan to do some rendering tonight, so we'll see! Thanks!

That's great! Let me know how it goes...

Shoot, well that's the only trick up my sleeve. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know!

I'd appreciate that!

do you have hexagon or any other such program so you could check the mesh of the spear. see how its made, sometimes things get distorted that way because there's one faulty polygon.

Well .. that's crap. Lol. I don't have anything like that.

well i dont know how much legality of things are important to you but hexagon would be a easy tool to use to check it and its easily findable also ;)

Legality .. ?

i just meant you can easily find it as a torrent but i know some people are against getting stolen content so i was asking if this was the case with you.

Ooooh. There was once a time when I did, but that's not something I do now. I avoid them like the plague. Lol.

I have a special deterrence toward using torrents. They essentially ruined my last computer.
