Eris is the Greek goddess of strife and discord. (Her Roman name was Discordia)
She was the only goddess not to be invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. When she turned up anyway and was refused admittance, she raged and threw a golden apple amongst the goddesses inscribed "To the fairest." Three laid claim to it-Hera, Aphrodite and Athena-and in their rivalry brought about the events leading up to the Trojan War.
Another beautiful piece about one of my favorite Goddesses, by such a talented artist. It's a pity that Eris, the deity who started the Trojan War (in such a Maleficent-like way) is not so well known. I love her expression, and the crown, the wings... Everything!
I got to do an entire college research paper on Eris (it was fun). It sort of turned into my senior thesis, so I'm always happy to see this curious character turn up in art. This is a fantastic take on her. I love her crown!
(Also, I finally recognize one of your music choices! Whoo!)
Oh,I love this so much!!! Thank you of the Greek Mythology picture. I love the wings, black dress, and sinister look on her face! Do more Greek Mythology and maybe some Yuletide spooky stuff too. I'd really like you to do Hephaestus, the god of fire and forge,he's my favorite Greek God ever! Keep up the good work!
