Much of this is clearly derived from that old Indian carving.  It was on a cylindrical thing of some sort.  I forget what.  Other elements, I don't know where they're from.  I'd be sair interested to know the sources of inspiration for this thing.

I think the biggest influence is probably the gundestrup cauldron from denmark and the pillar of the boatmen from what is now france. I dont see any indian influence

There are some very similar images in some carvings I've seen from ancient India.  I can't recall any specifics at the mo.  I have some photographs somewhere...

The Hungarian folklore originally has no such creature (or at least I didn't find any), so we borrowed - again - from the southern Slavic culture.
The Hungarian busó comes from Croatia, and the busójárás (well, basically the coming of them) is a well known tradition in Mohács, southern Hungary. It's 'ancestors' were Slavic and Turkish forest gods, like arsula. (These are more or less similar to the Leshen in the Witcher stories.). It has tail, horns, long nails and wears a red scarf. It is more or less human formed, but can transform into literally anything. It has no shadow though, so can be recognized :D Sometimes it has three or four arms and eyes, two of them are on the back of the head. Mostly active at night.
It protects the forest animals, but mostly evil to humans.
