Speed painting: Hi there by IRCSS Speed painting: Hi there by IRCSS
Hey guys, here is an under one hour painting, so it's quite loos but I enjoyed doing it quite a lot. This was actually a paint over for a friend of mine who was wondering about how to push the painting to the next level so I kept it quite short.

Awesome. Putting the man in the picture really emphasizes the size of the monster.
Under an hour though? Wow. It looks amazing, you were really able to fit a lot of the details in here in such a short time. Great work. :)

I love the way you used the lighting here. It halls attention to the human figure; even though it so small.

Thank you. Well planing is the key to speed. When you know where you are putting what color putting them wont take out much time. Is there anypart you think I could improve upon?

:faint: Seriously...? It's perfect the way it is, I can't imagine more being done with it being a speed painting! If I had to really focus on something, I'd (personally ;) ) like to see the moon just a wee bit more. But, that is completely a personal pick! :iconredbullglompplz:
I personally don't paint, but I do enjoy looking at paintings and watching people in action =D It just amazes me what each individual creates and is capable of!

Thank you for the feed back. I will try to enhance the moon, it might improve the composition too.

I know what you mean :D Watching people paint specially is quite like magic. Have you watched the series from BOb Ross called The Joy of Painting

You're very welcome! :la:
:XD: Oh man I loved watching Bob Ross! I'd have his program on and I'd be working on something, just listening to his voice- it was so soothing to me! He's become immortal with his epic painting shows, I love that!

Yeah. :D "adding some bushes and stuff" :D I watched him for years when I was a kid on TV, without having access to any painting material. But watching him for so many hours made painting feel so natural to me to the extend that when for the first time I painted when I was 16, with pretty much no drawing or painting experience, I was able to paint perfectly almost effortlessly. Truly I would cite him as a teacher for as long as my brain is sane :D

Thanks, well I am not quite sure myself. As I said this was a paintover. The original piece had a guy walking int the woods until he reached this rather hilarious looking monster. I tried to keep the design which lead to a rather yet again hilarious looking monster despite the color scheme and composition. So to compromise i picked some design elements which people tend to agree with like the patterns on some characters on WOW or the strangeness of a maksed looking face and added that in and thats how it ended up looking like this. Anywhere you think I could improve upon?

pretty cool process!
Man, if you ask me i think the lights are amazing! My only little suggestion would be to add just a little bit of glare to the flame on the torch and at the same time obscure a little bit the surrounding trees, just to give it a more tense mood to the pic! But more than anything im basing my words in personal taste heh

You're welcome!

I guess it is easier when you plan everything out. I usually just plan out the basic idea of the image and then just incorporate and ideas that come to me later as I go along.

Planning saves time later on when you have to guess the correct composition perspective poses colors and ... guess work usually involves lots of painting and repaitning where as when you know what you want one stroke is enough to indicate your intention. One for a tree one for a wall one for a mountain and so on.
