Watch Us From Above

Well, this took long to be uploaded. On Patreon I posted a WIP for this, way back in the middle of the summer of 2020. Well, it got finished around that time too.
It's embarrassing how long it took me to upload it, but I needed time to think out how to write the story in it. And I also forget do it.X'D But better late than never I guess.^^'''''

This is not a headcanon (tho it has a small headcanon-y part to it) , just a small, fan fiction-y story idea, set in the show's canon. This story came to mind while I was listening to a certain song.

It's been a year since Twilight became the new ruler of Equestria. She got used to her new life and her new powers. She thought it would be a great time to visit Celestia and Luna and see how they enjoying their retirement.
However, when she went to the Silver Shoals, she was shocked; they were nowhere. In fact, according to others they never lived there.
Over months, sent out parties searched for them all over Equestria and beyond. But there was no sign of them anywhere. Everything that left suggested that they vanished by their own will. Twilight run through her memories of their last goodbye over and over in her head. Was it a 'See you later' or a 'Farewell'?
Then one night, waking up from a sleep, she found two, almost ghostly looking figures of her lost friends. She couldn't fully recount what happened that night, but Celestia and Luna talked something about that they lived a long life and it was time for them to return to the sky. However, one thing she clearly remembered that they assured her they always be with her and all of the ponies of Equestria.
The next day Twilight thought what happened was just a dream. But she still couldn't help, as she raised the moon for that night, look at two brightly shining stars on the vast sky and say:

"Please watch over us from above."

And there it is.

The song that inspirited this drawing is 'The Prayer' by Andrea Bocelli and Céline Dion. This song has different versions (one duet and two solos) , the specific one for this drawing was the Célion Dion solo version. I would link it but only version I found on YouTube is gone rip. But if you found it somewhere, give it a listen, to get what was the general feeling behind this drawing (important note, she has song 'Prayer', it's not that one if you found that. It's 'The Prayer').

Also, the small headcanon I mentioned is ponies have the belief that when they die, they than reborn as stars in the night sky. And connected to it, shooting stars are when ponies' spirits came back to visit their friends and families (hence why Applejack was looking at the two shooting stars in the Apple Family Reunion episode).

So does that mean, for this drawing, that Celestia and Luna are dead? Hmmm...no, not really, or rather I didn't go that far to think it out. So you can think whatever you want to.^^
