Importance of Kagome
She was also the mother-figure for two orphaned non-human creatures. One of which who wouldn't acknowledge even to himself when his heartache and pain was too heavy or his nightmares were to much to bear - that he needed another. InuYasha also silently understood all the times that though Kagome spoke to the tear-strained and trembling form of Shippou, that her loving words were also directed to the adult orphan who yearned for the same comfort and love.
InuYasha would never know of all the times when he was far too wounded to find his perch up in a tree that Kagome had picked up Shippou and carried the fitfully sleeping kit in her arms over to InuYasha. The hanyou so deeply trapped within his nightmares; whimpering and pleading so quietly would never know how it draw Kagome to him, his need for comfort waking her swiftly from her own slumber. She would rest Shippou into her lap and gently easing InuYasha against her side, tuck his head to her shoulder so his ear rested so close to her chest that he could hear her heartbeat, feel her warmth.
Once InuYasha had curled into her body more on his own, a ghostly 'mama' on his lips, and his breathing evened out would Kagome softly start singing lullabies to both these lost little boys of hers. Soothing their dreams and loving them unconditionally without a thought or care of herself. Her fingers would gently stroke through the rich and thick locks of both her boys as a tender smile graced her lips.
When morning came up, and before InuYasha would stir, Kagome would slip silently back into her sleeping bag carefully placing Shippou beside her and none would know of the countless sleepless nights she gave for these lost ones she loved.
