The Grandeur of Delusion
Fooling yourself is a survival strategy
Published on March 8, 2013 by Jeff Wise in Extreme Fear
"Psychologists define “delusion” as a manifestly absurd belief held in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, specifically as a symptom of a disorder like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. But we’re all delusional to some degree. In fact, a certain amount of delusion may be essential for our mental health."

Freud's Cognitive RevolutionFreud's philosophical revolution
Published on February 15, 2012 by David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D. in Philosophy Dispatches
The received wisdom amongst scientifically-minded psychologists is that Freud is passé - a sad case of theoretical speculation gone wild. There is something right about this bleak assessment, but there is also more than a little wrong with it. Compare it with the view of Freud offered by Clark Glymour, a noted philosopher of science, in a paper entitled "Freud's androids." "Freud's writings contain a philosophy of mind," writes Glymour, "and indeed a philosophy of mind that addresses many of the issues about the mental that nowadays concern philosophers and ought to concern psychologists."
"Freud's thinking about the issues in philosophy of mind is often better than much of what goes on in contemporary philosophy, and it is sometimes ad good as the best. Some of this is dated, of course, by the limits of Freud's scientific knowledge, but even when Freud had
Marijuana and Sex: SurveyMarijuana and Sex: Surprising Results of This Blogger’s Informal Survey
A surprising proportion of respondents said, "It depends."
Published on May 1, 2011 by Michael Castleman, M.A. in All About Sex
67%f respondents said marijuana enhances sex.
• "I'm not a frequent smoker, but when I have smoked and then had sex, it's been the most amazing sex of my life."
• "Marijuana engulfs me in sex foam. I'm just pure sex on that stuff. It's great. I could never feel that way sober or drunk."
• "Definitely enhances sex. A few tokes make me feel horny the vast majority of the time, and it makes the whole experience much more enjoyable."
• "After smoking, I can feel my nipples perk up, clitoris tingle, and vagina become wet to the point that I can feel it through my pants and my man knows he is in for a LONG night."
• "Cannabis is soooo good for sex that sometimes it can become awkward because during casual hook-ups, the woman might get the wrong

Cognitive biases lead guys to overestimate women's interest in them.
Published on March 22, 2012 by Nate Kornell, Ph.D. in Everybody Is Stupid Except You
Why do guys mistake women's friendliness for sexual interest?
Why does this bias exist? One might say that the media sexualizes men and makes them see sex wherever they look. This can't be the whole answer, though, because guys don't overestimate ALL women's interest (e.g., they don't overestimate their sisters' interest in other men)—if I'm a man, I overestimate women's interest in me. But what of the argument that the media depicts women as less interested in sex and having a lower sex drive than men? If that's the case, we should see men assuming that women are just generally not that interested; and should see women perhaps holding the opposite bias: assuming that men are more interested. So these proxima
Sexual Stereotyping Affecting Your Relationship ?Is Sexual Stereotyping Affecting Your Relationship?
Sexual stereotypes and their distortions of the sexes are divisive.
Published on February 9, 2012 by Lisa Firestone, Ph.D. in Compassion Matters
Sexual stereotypes are everywhere. We see them in commercials, where happy moms dance around their homes in celebration of a functional mop. We see them in movies, where stoic male heroes are still rescuing clueless heroines. We see them on sitcoms, where single women dream of getting their boyfriends to settle down, and lazy husbands just want to watch sports.
It's true that in recent years we've made advances to establish equality between the sexes. Society is reflecting fewer attitudes that support discrimination and inequality between men and women, and most of us espouse a point of view that is liberated from old sexual prejudices that once bordered on racial bigotry. However, even though we are liberated in our beliefs and attitudes, many of our actions are still in
The Context Dependence of Hot Guys (and Girls)Science Of Small Talk
The science of social behavior, one interaction at a time
To be hot or not to be hot–that is the question.
Published on January 29, 2012 by Sam Sommers in Science Of Small Talk
What makes someone attractive to you?
"Specific physical features? A particular personality type? A certain indefinable quality of character or depth of soul? All reasonable answers, sure, but there's an additional response you probably didn't give–one that behavioral science suggests you should at least consider. Another critical influence on who you're attracted to is context.
Show women a photo of a man, research has demonstrated, and they'll rate him as more attractive when he's pictured posing with other women than when he's alone (or when he's with other men). And in other studies–not to mention Seinfeld episodes–the very same man gets rated as more attractive when he's described as married versus single."

Protecting and nurturing our emotional sensitivity
Published on December 24, 2011 by Lisa Rivero in Creative Synthesis
Being more open and honest about our thoughts and feelings is always the best course. Or is it?
Advantage: "You are passionate, and passionate people put their all into projects. Empathetic people are passionate about their beliefs and ideas. In creative roles, or as sales or marketing people, passion is a plus."
Disadvantage:"You may be a victim of emotional vampires. Emotional vampires are people who suck the energy right out of you and leave you feeling drained and depleted. They may do this by being needy, talkative, cruel, or by running right over you. There are lots of different types of emotional vampires-and they're naturally drawn to empaths like you."

Protecting yourself from Paypal chargebacksI decided I'd write something on this since it seems to be affecting a lot of my friends and artists I'm close to. I'll start with a few disclaimers.
I am not a finance expert. I have never filed a chargeback nor have I been in a chargeback dispute (fortunately). I have done some research out of both curiosity and out of desire to help out the community a bit. This is going to be quick(ish) and summarized. I'm also going to be changing some things to the way I sell as well (obviously).
This journal isn't about what to do in a chargeback dispute but rather, how to set up your sales so that you'll have the upper hand when having to deal with a dispute. I've included some useful links at the bottom for further information!

Printed Minky Reviewedit to add: yes the printed minky is washable! I didn't wash mine, but according to spoonflower "Wash separately in cool or warm water using a gentle machine cycle. Machine dry using a low temperature or permanent press setting and remove promptly to avoid wrinkles." Although please don't machine wash a plush, ahah. Just the fabric.
So I recently got the chance to play with printed minky! Here's a sort of review about it
Bought from: spoonflower.com
Price: $28/yrd. Very expensive, but for a very versatile product of this quality it's definitely justified.
Shipping: Only $6 to Canada, with tracking, took about a week and a half to arrive once shipped, no duties. A+
File prep: spoonflower has very simple requirements that are easy to follow. I scanned my pattern pieces, cleaned them up and colored them, then I copied them into a file that was set to spoonflower's specifications (150dpi, set to the width of minky. I added length as I needed it). To make sure my pieces
