Well DeviantArt, it's been a while; 久しぶり!

I regret admitting that I have recently neglected my art. I would love to sit here and say it's because I've been busy working on various other projects, but no. Just plain old work and the ever-present: life and its unpredictable nature... You know, growing up you get this image of how life is going to be at this point; how you'll feel; how you'll act. Well I've reached the middle of my twenties and the report is this: Nope, you still don't have all the answers; you are actually starting to stop trying to figure them out altogether because, let's face it, if you're not having any fun then what's the point to any of it.
That being said, I recently purged this account of my old and rather cringe-worthy pieces. Phew! You all were so kind to me when I was still trying to figure out which direction was up...

I'll keep the rest of this quick.

Yes, I'm still working on my 100 Theme Challenge. I implore you to visit my blog if you are interested in hearing me blab on and on about each piece that I do, as I generally tend to keep that off of DeviantArt. But by all means, visit and follow if you are so inclined. :teamo:

Really that's my main focus these days outside of work. The company I work for is doing really well right now, so I've been using most of my energy on that.

Lastly I would like to address my most popular Deviation ever: [Happy Valentine's Day]
You all are amazing. Don't ever forget that. Know that you are not alone just because you are an artist. We creatives have had a bad reputation throughout history for being crazy loners. "Normal" people don't get us. We don't create art for attention necessarily. It's for communication. Thank you to everyone to Favorited that piece and commented. The support from complete strangers was overwhelming and heartwarming. I Love You Emote

Birthdays and Life

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 7, 2012, 9:58 PM
  • Listening to: Music
  • Drinking: Water
Well to start it off, I want to wish DeviantArt a very happy 12th birthday! 12 happens to be my favorite number and yesterday was MY birthday, so... cheers all around! On top of that, I am now TWICE as old as DeviantArt! Whooohoo!

A lot has conspired since my last journal update. I have moved to Nevada with my company, and am finally getting settled into my new, beautiful apartment. I love how much cheaper everything is here! I have also been moved into more of a Director position at work and given my own office. I was put in charge of the web department and the video production department. Of course, that is in addition to basically being the lead Graphic Designer. They also put into place fantastic health coverage for all the employees, so I can go to the doctor if I have to now! Needless to say, it has been exciting!

In my last post I talked about a handful of projects I was working on outside of work. Most of those are now finished, I am proud to say. I am still working on the Tarot Card deck, but I have only 16 cards left! (For those of you who do not know much about Tarot decks, they have 78 cards.) This will be the largest project I have completed since finishing college, and arguably the largest project ever finished for me. I can't wait for them to be done! I will keep you all posted on where you can be looking if you are interested in purchasing a deck.
The 100 Themes of Love Triangles Challenge is going slower than it should be due to the Tarot Cards taking priority. I should be getting back into them shortly, as I have a long way to go still before I can check off a milestone for that project.
In addition to both of those huge projects, you may have noticed that I have new original characters up. These are from my newest novel and I am rather proud of the image quality that I have been able to produce. I am roughly halfway through writing at the moment, and I am enjoying it immensely! I can't wait to try to get it published after it's finished! I hope ya'll will like it. I am pleased to announce that the latest picture for this is now my most popular!
The Escape by InochiToHi

My absence of pictures can be chocked up to my incredibly busy schedule recently. I have attended two weddings and moved. The second, and most recent wedding, was for my book writing partner and best friend, so I was in it. I designed her programs and accompanying papers and labels. For her shower, I did the invites and all labels/name tags etc. I had a lot of fun designing all of it, and will be posting stuff as soon as the pictures come in. Because of this, I will be adding a special section to my rates regarding wedding graphics design. (See Below)

Hello everyone! ただいまあああ! Oh my gosh I have been so busy! I have so many things going on right now and I am extremely excited about them all! (But truthfully they're just there to keep my mind busy...) First off, I am finally beginning to settle into my new job. (Maybe some twiddle in there too...) I work for a FMO near Los Angelos doing Graphic and Web Design plus short Video Production. They're keeping me fairly busy during the daytime work hours, as the HR lady is super strict about hours and whatnot. They also want to move me to Las Vegas... a decision of which I have yet to come to.

On the side I have been racking up projects! I am doing a number of personal things, in addition to freelance work for others! I just recently finished a Business card for a Private Math Tutor, and am almost finished with her new webspace. I am in the middle of designing a book cover for a Lawyer and this weekend I am also going to begin work on a deck of Tarot cards to accompany a new book that just came out. It's all very exciting!
For myself, I am still working on the Love Triangles 100 Theme Challenge. As of yet, I have 14 pictures done and 6 more in the works. My goal right now is to get the first 25 pictures done so I can get a "The First 25" book printed for my writing partner. I also started to turn the book into a screenplay, but that is going to be a long process, as I want it to be as professionally perfect as possible. (And I honestly don't really know what I am doing... so I'm still in the research stage...)
I also started writing a new novel of my own. It is currently completely outlined, so what I'm doing now is sitting down and actually writing it. I'm sure you have noticed the hints towards this new project, as I have posted 2 pictures of the characters in it thus far. Magdalena Haswell, in fact, has had the quickest favorite rate I have seen for probably any of my other works here on DeviantArt! Nevertheless, it is going to be a while before I get anywhere near close to being done with the rough draft of that book. In my notes, there are 40 chapters, and I am working on 9 at the moment.

On a more personal note I am traveling next week to Kansas City to attend my family reunion and while I'm there I get to also see my sister! It's been too long. However, that means that all of my projects are getting put off until after I get back in October before they can see any more progress. Also in October I am planning on finishing my Halloween Costume... we'll see if that actually happens though...

So all-in-all, it's been a very busy September. I am happy with all the progress I have made on my projects, but of course I'm never quite happy that they're not farther along. THERE AREN'T ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY!!!

Plus... (this is the part that you have to look up if you want to read b/c it's really personal...) 私は元がしひとが見損ねります。。。恐らく、落ち度をするだと思ういます。。。それでは、とても忙しい意になりました。。。(ごめんね、私は日本語があんまり上手ですが。。。2009年に日本に住んでいました。)

Feeling a bit creative today- went in to work early this morning to try to make up the hours I lost when I took a trip to Seattle and Vancouver over the weekend before Independance Day. It was a long day, but at least I get paid for the extra hour I attended.

The trip was a lot of fun. I went with my Boyfriend and we got to play in the snow. ^_^ We also saw the Seattle Space Needle and Pike Market. My favorite part was the Ski lift on Grouse Mountain just outside of Vancouver.

In more relavent news I am determined to work more on my 100 Theme Challenge. I re-started the blog for it, and I have done some more drawings towards it. Of course all the images will find themselves on to my DeviantArt... but for more detailed information, please visit and follow my blog. By the end of the Challenge, there will be a 100-page book available for purchase, so please follow carefully to stay up to date with everything!

I am also writing another book. I just started it, so nothing much to tell yet, but keep an eye out for character designs and concept art! I'm still toying around with the title of it, but the genere will be fantasy-adventure. It's a little bit inspired from a story I write back in High School, but it's got a bit more of a twist and a very different ending.

Well that is all for now! Until next time!

Just a little update! Life has been pretty busy recently. I started my new job back in September, and in January I moved out into my own apartment. I celebrated one year with my wonderful boyfriend shortly after that, and we have been enjoying post-college life. That's all happy and I am very grateful for all of it, but sadly, I am still not getting paid the appropriate amount based on my qualifications, skills and education.

Therefore, I am opening up my services. I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art with the addition of a Digital Media Certificate. I have experience in graphic design, web design, animation and motion graphics. While I can hard-code dynamic web pages in HTML, CSS and Flash, I regret that I just do not have the time to turn over a coded web page in the proper amount of time at the moment. I will only be offering the Design of personal and professional web pages.

My rates are as follows:
            -Logo Design: $60
-Web Page Design (Home page + Info Page): $80

A lot has been going on in my life the past month. Here's the rundown:

1) Firstly, I got a job! I am now a part of the graphics department at Yafa Pen Company in Canoga Park. Guess what I do? I upkeep/redo their webpage and basically anything else that requires a good artistic presentation. It's a 8-5 job, full-time, so that's good. I've enjoyed it so far, and the drive isn't too bad.

2) My boyfriend and I have tickets to go see Rascal Flatts in concert next weekend and we are so stoked!

3) Because Halloween is coming up, and after talking to my book partner, I have decided to sew my own Halloween costume this year. I am going to portray one of the characters from Love Triangles, and my boyfriend has agreed to portray one of the other ones. So, yesterday we went to the fabric store and bought patterns! ^_^ I am so excited. Now I just need my mom to help me with measurements and then get fabric! (Although I already have some pretty snazzy fabric picked out. ^_^) Then, when my book partner comes home in January, we are going to hold a photo shoot- so expect pictures up sometime after that.

4) I'm still living at home, but I have begun the search for an apartment by trying to figure out what I can afford and where. So that's been started and it feels good.

Well that's pretty much it for now. My boyfriend has also agreed to learn swing dancing with me, and we are going to go do that today. ^_^ I'm so excited that I have found someone who likes to do the same things that I do, and is open to the other stuff.
  • Drinking: Iced Tea
Well once again it's been months since I last updated. So here's the Reader's Digest version:

1) I graduated in May with my BA in Studio Art, Minor in Asian-Pacific Studies, and Digital Media Certificate. I also earned Cum Laude Honors and a handful of awards to boast.

2) I have spent most of my summer traveling before I start working so I don't feel bad taking the time off. I went to San Fransisco, Solvang/Camping, Kansas City/Columbia, Hawaii, and San Diego.

3) I also am in the process of re-vamping my website. It should be up by the end of the month. In the meantime, please feel free to visit www.CatMannStudios.com for the contact information.
In addition, I updated the Love Triangles web space with the ability to purchase your very own copy of the novel my friend and I wrote. We appreciate any support you have to give!

4) My search for a job in Post-Production in the LA/Hollywood/Santa Monica area has begun. I have applied a few places, but nothing has produced resulted as of yet unfortunately... Keep your fingers crossed for me please!

If anyone needs any Post-Production work done please feel free to contact me!

A lot has happened since I've updated this last. In fact- I've been so busy with things that are directly related to what I want to do with my life that deviantart has become a second. Not to say that I haven't been doing art and getting deeper into some pretty wonderful things... I just haven't had the time to upload them here until recently.
So here's what's up recently:

I graduate in May with my BA in Studio Art, minor in Asian-Pacific Studies and Certificate in Digital Media Art. Yay! While I am looking forward to it- I still fear that the economy will get to me like it has to so many others and I won't be able to find a job for a while after graduation. That would really suck too because I really feel ready to move out and live on my own. So we'll see..

However- I did land myself an internship in Hollywood two days a week working for a small production called BrainSurge. For those of you who have never heard of it before- it's a children's game show aired on Nickelodeon that incorporates Flash animation into the games. Everyone is really nice and despite the fact that I am technically in the Animation department- I have been working more with the Post Production people because that's what I have an interest in and more drive for.

So basically I'm just trying to get everything in order for my career to begin. I've created and launched my personal portfolio web-space, revised my resume, and begun the creation of my business cards, portable portfolio, and professional promotions. I have also identified what it is I want to be doing in the entertainment industry, which has always been sort of a vague thing for me. I have decided on Post Production for anything except for video games ('cause I am uninterested and know nothing about them to begin with).

In personal news I have the most amazing boyfriend ever- we met in class last semester and the more I learn the more I like. We have similar tastes in almost everything- even careers! I'm really looking forward to finding out where this goes.

Quick update on my personal life:
I have returned to the States, and I have started back at my home University. It's so great to be back and in classes that will challenge me artistically, and further my artistic education! My Professors are absolutely wonderful, and they support each and every one of us so much! Plus, my class schedule is absolutely amazing. 3 day weekends! (<- Plenty of time to do art!!)
I purchased a new HP Desktop and it is beautiful! However, I am still waiting for the Adobe CS4 Masters Collection that I ordered to come in the mail. I cannot wait! The possibilities are endless! After that comes, the only thing left for me to purchase will be Autodisk Maya, but I am going to wait a little bit on that.
I also just got a job! I now work as the Alumni Student Study Abroad Coordinator, and I have such big ideas for it! I am in charge of getting more students at my University to study abroad, and to help them with the process. I've already had a few come in! We really need to get our school on the map, since it's only been open for roughly 7 years. Not many people know that we exist, even though it's an amazing school with very small class sizes and amazing professors.
All of that aside- I will hopefully be graduating in the Spring of 2010! One year baby! Lot's of decisions to make though. I need to figure out exactly what it is I want to accomplilsh in my life, so that I can then go out there and DO it!

____________________________

Anyway... My goals for the year mainly revolve around getting my portfolio and skills ready and up to par so that I can get a good job after graduation. I'm taking a Web Design class to build up a website for myself that I can feel confident in giving to employers. Along with that, I am hopeing to include my big project for my Animation class in my portfolio as well. I've got the beginnings of something that could go on forever, and it feels great! And then... my acting class is meant to help my character Animation skills, as Glen Keane suggested (if you don't know who he is, look him up). Lastly, I'm in an AfterEffects class, and that will help me by 1) learning AfterEffects and 2) adding to my portfolio yet another program and genera of entertainment that I can be employed in.

____________________________

Well I think that pretty much covers it. I'll try to update as regularly as possible. It shouldn't be too difficult since my homework is all art, so once I've finished a chunk, I'll try to get it up here.
Lastly, I would like to just take a moment and thank everyone on DeviantArt who has viewed, favorited, and commented on my artwork. Feedback is one of the greatest tools that an artist can have, and you all really help me a lot. So- Thank you!

Best Regards,
Cat

Alright, for anyone who has been following the progress of Project Triangle (previously called "My Big Project"), thank you for all of your support and patience.
I am pleased to announce that it is now complete! Sadly, I cannot upload it here on DeviantArt, because what I have created is a web site. Please visit the following address to view what I have completed:

Love Triangles the Web Site

It consists of a splash page and a full web site. Please feel free to e-mail me from the page or leave a message for me here with your thoughts and comments. Critique is WELCOMED!

I do however, plan to continue creating pictures that fall under this same artistic style. By the end of the year, please watch for my upcoming Love Triangles Calender 2010! It will be available for purchase here on DeviantArt!

In other news, I have 3 months left in my stay here in Japan. I have absolutely loved it and I do not regret one second of it! Don't get me wrong though! Just because I am done with Project Triangle doesn't mean that I have reached any of my goals that I previously set! Yes, I finished a big project. However, I have more big projects to master!
As previously stated, my mission statement is as follows:

Focus: Animation and Web Design
Goal: To have made more progress towards my portfolio for use senior year and after I graduate from college.

Animation Assignments:
-Create Splash pages for Web Site Assignments
-Create a walk, and a push in flash for use in my portfolio
-Create 2 shorts for use to display my talent as an animator

Web Design Assignments:
-Create a new web sight for Love Triangles using Flash
-Create a new web sight to display my artwork in a more appealing manner so as to be used for professional promotion after college

General Assignments:
-When undying inspiration strikes me, follow it and create more works that can be included in my Portfolio
-Think critically about the cultural difference and challenge of Japanese society

My school schedule this semester is a lot lighter and leaves me with a lot more time to be doing art-things. So I've gotta buckle down and get this all done! I've been doing well on the General Assignments category though! All I need now is to get feedback, so I beg of you all- Please comment on what I've done and what I'm doing!

Well I am now currently residing in Japan, just outside of Tokyo, in a city called Kawasaki. I am studying at Waseda University, which for me, sadly doesn't offer real art classes... (Nor does it offer classes that challenge my brain)
So I have decided to give myself assignments so that I don't fall behind in my art.

I realize that this is a lot to take on, but I do have 9 months to meet these goals.
College is meant to prepare us for the real world; so that we can score a proper job that pays the bills and makes us happy. If going to a State School (as opposed to an Art Institute) has dampened my art education, then it is my responsibility to make up the difference through hard work and determination. In addition, if studying abroad will prevent me from partaking in opportunities otherwise available to me, then it is also my obligation to turn my experience into something better than what I would have had. I will not settle for anything less than what I have worked for. I intend to work for the best.

Ok so I havn't updated this thing in a while. So much has happened in my life this past year, it's crazy.

My bigest news is that I will be moving to Tokyo, Japan for a year in September for a Study Abroad program. I am so nervous, it's not even funny. I really want people to visit me, but I don't know how realistic that wish is at this point.

Art has been kinda non-existent recently because I've been so busy with work and school, and also because I am trying to see all of my friends before either they or I leave. This week has been kinda hellish because my boyfriend went back home on Tuesday, two of my close friends are leaving for school very far away, my best friend is going through tough times with a death in the family, and my boss at work isn't giving me the hours that I need to make enough money for next year. Oh, did I mention that I think I'm kinda sick?

I feel like eveything is changing and it will be that much harder to see all of the people that I love happy. I feel like everything is out of my control right now, even the things that should be. I'm trying so hard not to think about so many things right now because if I do, I feel like curing up into a ball and hiding in a hole.

Wow.. so my life is... very eventfull right now. And I still have a lot of people to hang out with this summer! (not to mention needing to actually see my two best friends!)

I need surgery on both of my feet because I have what they call Bunions. It sounds like a very painful and discusting surgery, since there is breaking and shaving of bone needed. So not looking forward to that, even if it's not this summer!

I really need to practice my Japanese. I went into a restruant today and said "Arigato" to the man who was speaking to me, and apparently because of my accent, he thought I used to live there. So then he asked me where I lived in Japan, in Japanese. So I tried to explain that I've only taken one class and I plan to go in about a year to study abroad there. He seemed very interrested, and he complimented me on my apparently "very good" Japanese accent. hehe.

So it's been about a month of summer so far. I've been working at Great Harvest quite a bit, but it's been good. I've also got a significant boy in my life who has been keeping my attention and my time. It's been taking me a while to get artwork done, so I appologize for the minimal pieces put up thus far. I did, however, put a lot of my crappy stuff into my scraps, so it's a little more focused in my actual gallery. It's taking me a while to get things done also because I'm trying to apply what I learned in my Physics of Art class to my artwork so that it looks better. Let me know how I'm doing!

You know what I think DeviantArt needs? I think it'd be wonderful to have the ability to sort and categorize the artwork in our galleries. Don't you? I think so.

I've also got a piece of artwork in the school show:

In my Drawing and Composition class we are doing murals around the art department in Blue Painter's Tape. I'm excited about that, and when I'm done, I'll get a picture to put up here too.
And soon, I will do a logo design for a friend of a friend, as well as more posters for my school. This feels good.

Previously, I've really only done one poster, of which I won first place in the contest for. This was last year, and the group that used my piece was First Five of California to promote early literacy in children ages 0-5.

Alright, I'm sorry, I cannot accept what my Physics teacher told me today. :pissedoff:
We, as artists, know that the primary colors are: Red, Yellow, and Blue. Thus, leaving the secondary colors as: Green, Orange and Purple.

Now, my professor, informs us of the Scientific Color wheel, in which the primary colors are Red, Green and Blue.

I'm sorry, but how can you create Green when you don't have yellow? And since when does Red+Green create Yellow?? I'd like to see him try to create that with paint! :evileye:

Turns out that the Newton's Color wheel, as described above, referrs to LIGHT color, where PIGMENT color is what we artists use.
Again, I repeat- I may understand this, but I refuse to acknoledge it. :mwahaha: This is worse than what happened with Pluto! In Elementary school we all learned that it was a planet, right? And now they're like, "Oh! Wait, JUST KIDDING! Sure had YOU fooled, DIDN'T we??" :heartbreaker:

Nevertheless, I so wanted to walk out of the lab uttering a "SCREW scientific coloring!" or a "STOP playing with your Chemistry sets and starting COLORING BY NUMBER!" :angered:

But there's plenty of other exciting things going on in my life, but I don't feel like posting about it. Oh well.

I'm thinking of coloring the girl. Perhaps I'll do that next week over spring break!
  • Listening to: Rascal Flatts, and.. Shawnna crying...
  • Eating: "Red Twists"
  • Drinking: Nothing... but I had Guava Juice earlier!
So...
HAPPY LUPERCALIA EVERYONE!

Yes- I have suceeded in finding a holiday that doesn't exist on the American calender! And I realize that this bullilton comes but an hour after the day ended, but nevertheless! While, I don't particularly wish to go out, kill two goats and a dog, wipe the blood off the knife with a milk-soaked cloth and smear it across the forehead of two young males, who would then dress in the goat skin and prance around wipping the women of the village to prevent sterility... I would like to say that we owe all of our Valentine's Day pain to this prior holiday..
So I hope everyone had a wonderful Lupercalia... I know I did! Lol
  • Listening to: Sugarland- the new CD
  • Watching: Just finished "Click" with Adam Sandler
  • Eating: Ooey Gooey Chocolate Brownies
  • Drinking: Tea
Well, now that the holidays are over.. I'd say I've been pretty artistic! Granted, I've had time to be artistic, so that definately helps.

Christmas was good- I got Adobe Illustrator and a new Digital Camera! I'm excited about that for sure!

New Year's Eve was so much fun. I hung out with my closest friends and we rung in the new year!

However, my boss isn't scheduling me as much as I would hope he would. I work one day this week, and that's tomorrow. There's really no point in me having free time if everyone I want to hang out with is working. And seriously, right now- my mom and her boyfriend are weird to be around, now that they are engaged(as of New Year's). So working is good for me right now.

_____________
I've been working on more of my 'Hands' series. It's been fun. But instead of doing them by hand, I've been illustrating them on the computer, so that has been one good thing about my extensive ammount of free time. So expect more of that to come, and I hope they don't get too weird for you! Lol

Also, I hope everyone has a wonderful new 2007 year!
  • Listening to: humming of my laptop
  • Watching: my turtles biting eachother
  • Eating: Cookie from work
  • Drinking: Hot Tea!
OMG I love the holidays.. but sadly.. it is a very busy time that doesn't allow for Art Production... Which also, in turn, upps my anxiety... and yeah... That doesn't mean I don't love the holidays!
But serously, Between working, shopping, wrapping and seeing my friends and family(which I am very sad that I have yet to see the two most important people! argh)... I don't get ANY art done...

I mean, you can count present wrapping, but that's.. kinda different. Especially because according to some people(coughbestfriendscough), I use too much tape.. BUT SERIOUSLY HOW ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP YOUR CHRISTMAS ART INTACT without the proper ammount of tapage!?! hehe

I hope everyone has merry holidays and happy new years ... (and oh God I think I'm still in happy-work-mode... gar)
  • Listening to: the roomates... argh
  • Drinking: Hot Tea!
So.. This is a riddle.. and the answer to this riddle is a gift that is perfect for anyone who spends the day drawing their hand off. (Hence me right now and working on my final for my Animation class)

I am an art major
and I draw my hand off
sometimes I can't even hold a pen
oh my how I wish it would stop cramping
perhaps I'll soak it in water to relax...
You can find these at Longs
and Sarah and I tried it once
it was warm and cozy
but not when you put it on your legs
Jenny and I've done it before
but that was done by a professional
with the nails it was only 5$ more
Sarah wasn't brave enough
for we were decapitatied a bit
that's all I want for Chistmas
perhaps my hands will smell nice come New Year...

HAHA! So you really don't have to get me this, but I would like to know what ya'll think I'm talking about! Hehe. GO!
