Dendritic Turkish Opal Pendant

This pendant features a dendritic Turkish opal. This isn't a typical opal with flashes of blue or green. It's made of the same mineral, but instead of thin layers of trapped water that give opal its famous shine, there are tree-like shapes of a different mineral that grew into the opal. When there's tree or leaf shaped patterns in stones, they're referred to as 'dendritic'.

The setting for this stone is sterling silver. The stone is polished on both sides, so I designed the setting so that it can be worn either way. The main photo shows a more elegant sweep of wire, while the other side of the pendant has some whimsical loops. You can decide which way to wear it!
