Vodyanoy (рус. Водяной, literally "watery/the one of the water", aka vadzianik, vodianyk) — is an evil spirit from slavic mythology, the master of all the aquatic areas throughout the earth. According to most of the legends, vodyanoy looks like half-fish old-man with his body bloated like one of the drowned, green beard and webbed hands. However, according to the later (christian) reinterpretation of the character, vodyanoy, being a "demon, overthrown by God from heaven into the water" sometimes described having horns, hooves and other exterior features of chorts, the demons from slavic folk christianity.
Vodyanoy is believed to be the "fish shepherd" — he controls and takes care of the fish, water animals, plants and all the natural processes of the water. Being an evil spirit, vodyanoy enjoys stealing people to his mansion at the bottom, drowning and scaring careless swimmers. In particular, it was believed that postmortem lividity of the drowned men is nothing but bites or the paw prints of the vodyanoy. He also has a special passion for water mills, and that's why the millers were trying to appease and win over such a dangerous neighbor by sacrificing black animals and never mentioning the vodyanoy by name as a sign of fear and respect.

In Slavic folklore, it is said Vodyanoy could turn himself into a beautiful swan and trick his victims to feed him. Then he would change back to his supernatural form and drag the victim to the bottom of the lake to his lair. Cool drawing🔥
