My Bio

Hello my name is Jessica, I am a Freelance Illustrator and Teaching Artist. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I am originally from Connecticut/ the Greater New York area. I spent most teenage and college years living in New England. I currently live in Huntsville, AL with my wonderful very loving Great Pyrenees named Akamaru.

I am a very active professional artist as this is my full time job. I am a solopenuer! I have an open to the public studio at a location called Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment in Huntsville, AL. They are the largest privately owned art co-op in the South United States. The Mill is an old factory converted for small artistic businesses, it is basically a mall full of artists! Within my studio I have a retail store where I sell prints and originals, I take on commissions, and where I work to create new pieces out of. My studio is also a school. Called: Inkspitter Studio - School of Illustration, Comics and Cartooning. Where I teach private lessons/ group lessons/ workshops.

Outside of being an Illustrator I am also a Teaching Artist. I am contracted/ I work residencies for The Huntsville Museum of Art, Burritt Folk Art School as well as Creative Launchpad (Formally known as -North Alabama Arts Education Collaborative). I piloted Creative Launchpad's visual arts program. Through this program i go into schools that have not had an art teacher in a long time, or their art program is very limited. I partner with a classroom teacher to combine an artistic practice with a subject they are teaching. This is called Arts Integration. I have been a Teaching Artist for 6 years and I have taught all age groups from Kindergarten all the way on up to adults (sometimes all age groups in a week!) all different kinds of art forms such as: sculpting, jewelry making, comic books, anime, figure drawing, pastels, graphite and more!

My passion is for storytelling. You'll find that each of my illustrations has some kind of story behind it. Sometimes I ask others to interpret the story themselves. Sometimes I have a specific story to tell. My work tends to be fueled by the themes of science fiction, fantasy, horror, the paranormal as well as creature and character designs plus world building. I enjoy bright and very vibrant colors in my work pushed with contrast, paired with highly detailed line work. I also have a personal goal of of having the line art drawing of my illustration be able to stand alone and be enhanced by my coloring. My preferred medium is markers, specifically Alcohol Markers. I love just about any ink based mediums and will mix different kinds of ink into my work for different effects.

One last note! I have been a Deviant since I was 12 years old! I have other Deviant Art profiles that exist from different parts in my life! This is my newest profile showcasing my work as a professional in the field.
