UPDATE: Please make sure your SVG is posted online as well by the deadline. If you put in the time and effort to enter the contest it would be a sad thing to have your entry get disqualified over. There are entries which currently do not have the SVG posted.

Hey all!

It's about that time again as we near the release of 0.91! The Inkscape team and community is winding down development and preparing to release Inkscape 0.91. Given that we will be releasing a new version of Inkscape, we need to have a new About Screen done.

:bulletgreen: Our goal is to show off what the new version of Inkscape can do in an artistic manner.
:bulletgreen: We don't have a particular theme, but since our goal was for refactoring code and internals maybe that could inspire.
:bulletgreen: You should use a current nightly build or a pre-release build.
:bulletgreen: The contest will run from September 1, 2014 - October 1, 2014.

:bulletred: The canvas dimensions must be 750x625 px / 600x500 pt (your image can bleed outside of the canvas, but anything outside of the canvas border will not be rendered).
:bulletred: Your image must be licensed appropiately: CC BY-SA, GPL, or any other "open" license.
:bulletred: It must be made in Inkscape only with no post-processing as we will require the SVG file to use for the about screen. Note: Your SVG file will be distributed with Inkscape 0.91 (hence the need for the above requested licensing).
:bulletred: It must load relatively fast since it will be rendered in real-time when someone views the about screen (the SVG's file size needs to be taken into consideration too).
:bulletred: It must include the Inkscape logo and the following text "Inkscape", "0.91", "Draw Freely.", "", and last but not least, your name, signature, or online handle (whichever you'd prefer).
:bulletred: There can be a maximum of two (2) entries submitted per community member.
:bulletred: It must not contain anything inappropriate or otherwise offensive (sorry, but we go by US decency standards).
:bulletred: We will need for you to post your SVG file online as well (either here on DA or on your own blog, website, or FTP) at the time of submission. You may need to put it in a zip file if DA won't allow you to upload SVG. If your SVG files are not online by the contest deadline, those entries will be disqualified.
:bulletred: Have fun!

October 1, 2014

Having your art be the About Screen for the new version of Inkscape and a credit for your work.

Preliminary judging will be done by the Inkscape community on DeviantART. The community judging period will be from October 2, 2014 - October 8, 2014. When we have an official “Top 3”, they will then be turned over to the Inkscape developers for final judging. Please note that once turned over to the developers, after they have chosen the winner they may have requests for modifications.

As with our previous contests, please post your submissions to your gallery or scraps and then post a reply to this Journal entry with a link.

Good luck everyone!

Ok, here are my two entries, second one is just a simpler variation of the original.
Makes thorough use of new the new gradient naming features, power stroke for the bamboo nodes.
Also loving layer drag and drop, configurable shortcuts (even thought I can't get to edit them inside Inkscape) as well as interface position saving.  and

Hope you guys like it.

My second entry for the contest. It contains the same weird and stripy plants. But they are in weirder locations.

I've hidden my issues with the preview - sorry about that. I worked out how to get a preview you do png.

Anyway, here's my entry for the inkscape 0.91 entry under the CC SA license:

I have completed my entry and [to my knowledge] have satisfied the criteria such as licence, size etc etc as above.

However I have never uploaded anything to DA before. I am having real trouble doing this; I wasn't brought up with computers [1980's] . I don't get it. I can't get a category to work.

Is there a tutorial on uploading to DA that I can find? Preferably DA for dummies with picture steps. Thank you.
