Black widow by InKibus Black widow by InKibus
Yeees, precious, sick of cute bunnies and fluffy ducklings?
My sis, :iconfrocktarts: called me out to photo this gargantuan (I love that word.....) Black Widow hanging off the building.
~shudder~
If you want a larger version of this for a print, just note me, I will probably move this to scraps eventually.
It's just a spider....

Don't move it to scraps! That's a great shot.

Almost looks like it was a piece of digital art. (hmmm - does that make any sense?) :D

Teehee, I don't believe it! The more 'artistic' shot is getting less of a response, but this one is better recieved. Never fails! ;)
YAnd Yes! It does make sense; spiders have a bizzarre mechanical symetry and form. Even their movement could be computer generated, because it is do even!

Yes, frustrating, isn't it? :D

I think the trick is to figure out how to save yourself a lot of work by going for the "simple" (which are not that simple) shots deliberately.

(gee, I start sounding cryptic like John. NOT a good sign!) :S

Hey, cryptic mean you are explaing the essense of an idea. Overelaborating doesn't give another person trying something the right idea; they try and do what another person who has succeeded has done.
;) Like Aragorn says to Gandlaf 'You still speak in riddles,', always saying enough IS enough.
It encourages people to get sparked with an idea, and then make it THEIR own.
Okay, Okay, I overelaborate. ;)

Less is more with a shot like this. (Sadly, my camera is almost dead, and most of my spider picture din't turn out at all. )

Honestly. That IS a good shot.

First, the composition. position of the spider, nicely off center while still being, evidently, the main focus of the image. The background, nice and uncluttered, but not completely bland due to the stripey stuff going on there.

Second, the colours. Cool unobtrusive greens and blues in the background, with the progressive thickness of the stipes, contrasted with the neutral black of the spider and just a dash of real bright red.

Thirdly, the contorted position of the spider and the subtlety of the thread it hangs off barely being visible.

Fourthly, the contrast between soft out-of-focus abstract background and the detailed sharp focus on the spider.

Honestly, a painter couldn't have done it better!

Cryptic? Yeah well. Maybe.Your's truly got cryptically kicked into sketching, that's true. :(

Cool shot! Too bad the strand of web doesn't stand out more, that would've really made the shot look spectacular. Was it just focus or was it just about invisible?

Thanks! I did try so very very hard to get the strand. It does border on invisble. But alas, my camera is on the fritz again, and I hear a Meat Loaf-ian epic sounding musical curtain call for my brave little camera this time. :( (Inki is price-shopping as we speak...)
Close ups are often ruined, almost half of the spider pictures weren't worth anything. But I think there is one where the strand showed up.....

Sadly, I think my sister did. Fair enough, it was living in our house, and my dad was bitten by a brown recluse. :o
Not pleasant. But today we met a rattlesnake (NOT at our house!) who let my dad virtually walk over it, and it didn't even bother us.
So, I'll keep my house safe from dealy animals, but I won't radomnly kill an animal far enough away not bothering me.

Sadly we had to kill this one, it was living in our house more or less. And my dad was bitten several year ago by a venomous spider.
It was really bad.
Still, he ws bitten by a venomous snake a long time ago, and wouldn't kill that rattlesnake.
It's far enough from our house, and we always try and let things live and leave them alone.

thats one thing I hated about TX they do something called rattlesnake roundups where they just find as many snakes as possible and spend all damn day killing them I "accidently" opened one of the cages and released about 30 snakes back into the wild at the one I was forced to go too ;)

A gigantic black spider is noooo problem for Frocky to spot! ;)

Very true! I like to leave nature alone, though after being frightened by it.... you just wanna touch that shiney body.
Or you just wish you could pet a rattlesnake, they look like little dragons.
I'll settle for them posing for me, though!
