InkArtists is for deviants who admire the aesthetics and essence of ink art. Ink has permanency, immediacy, and even spirituality for some people. From calligraphy to tattoos, we love the power of ink.

Truly, this is where
Travelers who go or come
Over parting ways--

Friends or strangers--all must meet:
The gate of "Meeting Hill."

After a wonderful two months, it's time to wrap up our prompt. I've enjoyed seeing people interpret and illustrate poetry that's over a thousand years old. :meow: It's amazing how things from history can continue to have so much impact, and everyone's responses turned out so lovely. Be proud of yourselves.

It's also been great seeing two communities come together, literature and traditional art. Thank you kindly to my co-hosts, lashedcheek and Drerika, representing TraditionalDeviants and traditionalmedia. I wouldn't have attempted this without you.

Thank you as well to everyone who joined in. With 12 participants, we covered 14 of the original 100 tanka from the OHI, which I'm pleased with. Lady Sanuki's was definitely the most popular, inspiring two poems and two variations on an illustration.  Without further ado, here's the feature of submissions:

Grace The mountain stag stands
Like a listening statue.
He hears the doe sigh.
Autumn antlers and red coat,
Oh!--courting grace while he waits.
As I view the moonBare like a mirror,
the deep, cold river reflects
the light of the moon.
Under the moon's lonely watch,
I am waiting for a boat.
To fall to witherConvoluted skin
Tells a tale involving
Decline and decay.
I watch eyes rendered lifeless,
As lifeless eyes render me.

3 Tanka for the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu promptEntry #1
My vow of love is like
The moonlit sea
Crashing upon rocks:
Steadfast against
Your fickle heart
       68. Emperor Sanjo
心にも                 Though I do not want
あらで浮世に         To live on in this floating world,
       ながらへば            If I remain here,
       恋しかるべき         Let me remember only
夜半の月かな        This midnight and this moonrise.
Entry #2
The maple's leaves
Soon will fall,
Unlike my tears:
How many more must I shed
For your absence?
Self, same?From there to now
Just one moon glows
With stark and yearning light;
It is the self it shines upon
Who's never quite the same.
magpie dreamsthe magpies gather
lamp-wick black and frosty white
on wooden bridge rails
coveting the sun sparkles
on the swift water below
winter flowseeing this river
wide spanned by a wooden bridge
lit by swaying lamps
lift your heads and smell the salt
we'll be in port by daybreak
on a wooden bridge
the winter river running
to the salty sea
unlit lamps smelling of oil
wait on this day's setting sun
the magpies gather
lamp-wick black and frosty white
on wooden bridge rails
coveting the sun sparkles
on the swift water below

the bridge keepers daughter stands
'til he drifts from sight
the sleepy magpies murmur
soon be time to light the lamps
old mules and poetsthe old mule is old
he walks a deep worn pathway
through the growing dusk
one by one the lamps are lit
the magpies salute the dark
Entry - Lady Sanuki - tankaEntry #1:
Sunshine of hope's joyful
Call will never come
Down to seabed's darkness.
My heart's shining rocks
Sink to the depth further down.

CRLit prompt istones on the shore
laid bare to sun and wind
stripped as my heart
my lover comes to me
only to leave again
CRLit prompt iiin haste throw apart
this barrier to our love
hide not behind fear
as the peony unfolds
open wide yourself to me

Thanks again, everyone, and I hope to see you in future events!

See how clear and bright
Is the moonlight finding ways
Through the riven clouds

That, with drifting autumn wind,
Gracefully float in the sky.
