St. John's wort/Hypericum! Mostly because of its name in russian, "Зверобой, which roughly translated as "Beast slayer", and because it's believed to ward off evil spirits.
> An animal
Drathaar. It's a hunting breed, and they always have funny faces like "HEY IT'S ME GET ME OUT OF THE DOG"
> A scent
Out of pure aesthetic - bittersweet buckwheat honey and heavy incense. Reality, of course, is less pleasant. Metal, sweat (both his own and horse's), and smoke.

It was a hard choice between the Splendor Solis - Miserere and Machine Head - Be Still and Know. And, although the text of the second one is more suitable for the character, it has totally different vibes.

Hope. No questions asked, the first thing that came to mind, and I didn't even have any other options. Something that gives you strength to fight.
Although I now realize that there may well have been anger or vanity, I don't want to put the negative trait at the forefront - they don't define this character.
