Taking Water Home

Location: Muslim Colony, Islamabad, Pakistan

An estimated 60% to 70% of Pakistan’s population resides in makeshift settlements.  Informal dwellings that are devoid of fundamental amenities such as potable water, electricity, gas, and proper sewage systems. The daily lives of these residents are often consumed by efforts to compensate for these deficiencies.  It is a common sight to witness children making trips to the nearest water source, and returning with what they can carry, some with buckets, others with jerry cans, and this young girl with nothing more than a simple bottle.

Despite the gravity of their task, these young water bearers approach their chore with a light-hearted demeanour, infusing their  quest with a sense of fun and adventure.
