Hanoi Street - X by InayatShah Hanoi Street - X by InayatShah
Location:  Hanoi Vietnam

Vietnam's capital races to make up for time lost to the ravages of war and a government that as recently as the 1990s kept the outside world at bay. Its streets surge with scooters vying for right of way amid the din of constantly blaring horns, and all around layers of history reveal periods of French and Chinese occupation – offering a glimpse into the resilience of ambitious, proud Hanoians. Negotiate a passage past the ubiquitous knock-off merchants and you’ll find the original streets of the Old Quarter. Defiant real-deal farmers hawk their wares, while city folk breakfast on noodles, practise t’ai chi at dawn on the shores of Hoan Kiem Lake, or play chess with goateed grandfathers. Dine on the wild and wonderful at every corner, sample market wares, uncover an evolving arts scene, then sleep soundly in a little luxury for very little cost. Meet the people, delve into the past and witness the awakening of a Hanoi on the move.
[Excerpt from Lonely Plant]

I arrived in the early afternoon in Hanoi, and it was this passage I had read about Hanoi, that made me eager to wander the streets of Hanoi.  My hotel was in the old quarter of Hanoi and the sounds of the street beckoned  me.  Still groggy from the red-eye flight, The weather was overcast and the light fading and I didnt want to waste a moment, so I dumped my bags in the room, took to the streets.

This Image is part of the series of images "Hanoi Street", taken that afternoon.  That afternoon was an extraordinary and most wonderful experience and the start of a most memorable but short and limited journey through Vietnam.  I am in love with the country and in awe of the people.

Awesome photo, you really do a good job in capture the atmosphere of my own country. The old lady in this photo really reminded me of my own grandparents who still lived in Ho Chi Minh, who are a remnant of the past in Vietnam still holding on to the old traditions and beliefs.

Although I grew up in Vietnam, I haven't had a chance to visit Hanoi, hopefully someday I will try to visit Hanoi too I guess.

Very intense.  Fascinating folk, the Vietnamese.  I hope someday they can live without someone ordering them around.

well from my experience there, Vietnam is opening up and becoming much ore liberal and in general I find the people are very happy now

I'm glad--but what if they say something critical of the Party?

Critiques of the Party are rounded up and sent to rehabilitation centers, where they are forced to listen to the Speeches of Donald Trump and Read all his Twitter feed ... and the soon realize how much better the PARTY is and return home very very satisfied with a socialist way of life.

If you need any help in putting your trip together, I can put you through to the tour agency that did my trip.  They did a brilliant job for me

Thats great .. are you going for business or a vacation.  It is best to get a hotel in the old town near Hoem Kiem lake for exploring and photography.  Do you intend traveling around Vietnam ?

It's a street photography trip. I'm going first to Hong Kong for a few days and then to Hanoi. Back to HK for a few days before going home.
I won't travel around Vietnam this time. I have a room booked close to the train station. It's not far from the lake and the old town.
