Description

some days are dark....

This piece is meant to be, well, depressing. For many, depression is a constant unwanted companion. It is very different than the normal "blues" we may feel from time to time. No worries, I don't want emails or comments asking if I am okay. This is meant to bring attention to the very real fact that depression exists. There is no magic pill, or a switch that can be turned on or off, and sometimes we can not see the light at the end of the tunnel. But, it too exists.

Depression affects 121 million people worldwide. In can affect a person's ability to work, form relationships, and destroy their quality of life. At its most severe depression can lead to suicide and is responsible for 850,000 deaths every year.

To be classified as having had a Major Depressive Episode (MDE) a person was additionally required to fulfill five out of nine criteria including sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy and poor concentration.

Those of high income are more likely to suffer from depression than those of low income. I guess money really can't buy happiness.

Please, if you feel you need help call someone. There are people who care, who love you, who need you, who can help you.
