Mixed Media Steam Punk Plague Doctor
The coat is made from thin corrugated card cut and bent so it curves into shape, coated with tissue and then stained layers of acrylic and glue to create the worn leather look.
Bits of plastic junk for steam punk mechanics and some modelling clay for the face.
The hoses are made from thin wire wrapped around a piece of dowel and cling film, taped with masking tape and once removed squeezed to create the 'vacuum cleaner pipe' look.

Tell me, what do you use to make these? Yes i know it's a pretty stupid question, but i must know how to make one.

not stupid at all. The coat is made from thin corrugated card cut and bent so it curves into shape, coated with tissue and then stained layers of zcrylic and glue to create the worn leather look. Bits of plastic junk for steam punk mechanics and some modelling clay for the face. The hoses are made from thin wire wrapped around a piece of dowel and cling film, teped with masking tape and once removed squeezed to create the 'vacuum cleaner pipe' look.

When making these figures, do you make some sort of skeletal frame to start off, and if so, what do you use?
impsandthings's avatar
this particular one is hollow but normally I use thick gavanised wire to make the basic skeleton upon which I build the figure. I start with the head and feet sections and once these are modelled they are joined to the main skeleton armature.

Wow! Very nice Steampunk. How tall? Is the long coat leather?
impsandthings's avatar
thanks. He is about 70cm and mostly made from cardboard (exceptt he head which is modelling clay) and found objects I stain the card with alternate layers of pva and acrylic to get the leather effect

Thanks for telling me. The leather effects is really good. I would have sworn it was leather!

I'm so glad this was the only thing in the list of deviations for that group that was actually genuinely steampunk. This is a very nice piece, reminiscent of a short movie by the name of Jasper Morello.
