When showing your character folder, does it include art made by others? (as in, you give the folder with the references in it, but inside that folder is another folder with commissioned art of said character for example)

I dont do much art of my characters or get much art done of them. So its fairly frequent for me to send through images that others have done.

Speaking though from the commissioned side, I personally prefer it when I get as many images as possible (obviously only if they're accurate).  Often someones single drawing can be a little confusing, so it can be very helpful to see more interpretations of that character (again, only if its accurate).

yea yea i definitely get that
when i have unclear references i always tack on a drawing or two i commissioned that has a better viewing of the markings/anatomy etc etc
its just the giving the entire folder that has it all in is a bit mehhhh to me

which I don't /have/ to, but giving a lot of links is also mehhh for both parties and such kekek

Maybe you should have a folder for commissions specifically where you put only your works and commissioned works that you feel are the most accurate, rather than just handing over everything?

I'd feel bad though haha
like as if i dont think artwork i commissioned is good enough to be considered a reference jndfkgn

at the moment i've got it like this:
snag.gy/1aXhK.jpg
and inside those folders its like this
snag.gy/isufe.jpg

the OC folder is the one that has only references + art that I've personally done of said character and the 'For Me' folder has all the commissioned art jdfgk
I'm moving it all over to dropbox however, though I will miss that nice and easy view of the names and images when you hover over the folder icon

Hahah well its not like a commissioned artist needs a million images. Maybe jsut make a folder with like 3 images and then never update it unless something better comes along. I mean, I really don't think any artist would be offended, if they are then that's pretty petty. All you really need when commissioning someone is a single clear image. But single images sometimes leave doubt about certain markings etc. So then an additional image or two to help clear up any uncertainties. Its not a case of being good. There are many amazing artworks that I wouldn't recommend giving to a an artist as a reference because the image itself inherently changes a characters colours etc.

Yea yea that's why I usually now just link all the art ive made of the character
to show the most recent updates to said character + a better view of the markings and such

I don't include it because most people manage to mess up my characters' rather simple designs XD

Yea that's the predicament I'm in as well haha

It'd be more organized if I did, but a lot of commissioned artwork I've got is either outdated or the artist did it wrong in the first place and didnt correct it when I asked
(which, I'm now going to be more strict about since I paid for a product that is my character, not a character that looks like mine but has wrong markings etc)

I do include it. I did not use too. HOWEVER i do this because sense i have been on here for 5 years, the artists i have commissioned have sense started deleting or storing the old pictures so to keep all the stuff i payed for safe i have it saved on my computers as well as in my stash. But when linking a ref i only link the ref not the entire stash file
I have it on my computer and stash because i dont rely on either one alone and i do not have an external hard drive to save too.
I use to just save it to my pc but then my computer kinda spazzed out, blue screened and the tech people had to whiped a lot of stuff and i lost a lot of my programs and pictures so now i save it on my laptop and my stash

yea yea ive done the same now

ive got a folder in stash with all my characters references + all the art that ive personally done for them all in neat little folders of their own

and then ive got a seperate private folder which is basically the same except filled with art that ive gotten of said characters and i mostly keep these to myself

ive got it all saved on my computer + 2 external harddrives as well because I'm paranoid of losing it all haha

its just that, ive been thinking of moving to something else than stash, like dropbox or toyhouse but then I thought about how in the latter case I would probably have to do the commissioned art in there as well (well, i dont HAVE to, but I like it if everything is in one place altogether)

When I commission someone I usually give them the folder of my entire character list and those folders consist of art that I've done of them + the initial reference
So the commissioned art I've got isn't in those folders there, but rather in an entirely seperate one

BUT it would be more organized if everything was in the same folder, if you get what I mean? haha

yah yah i get what you mean its all really confusing at times and in the end youve gotta be like "well im content with this" and jut go with it
i dont think there really is a great organization process yet for art other than just having folders inside of folders haha

yea yea haha

but im thinking of moving my stuff away from stash regardless, as theres ways to accidentally get into someone's entire stash as well (it happened to me when I was looking at someone's picture, and when I pressed 'previous page' it brought me to their entire stash ???? I really dont want anything similar happening to me ndfjkgnk)

ahh yah thats understood, glitches can always happen, i mean da might get a bug one day and it all gets out or its all deleted and you just never know
i hope you find something out thats nice and stable and can let you customize it for like different folders and characters and such but without the worry of your art getting into the hands of other people!
(maybe da could implement a privacy setting that like even if they have the URL they cant see it without a password and you can put that on some of the folders or something)

oh man that option would be brilliant

I'm currently transferring everything over to dropbox as thats one of the only things I think are most reliable in terms of folders and images and such jnkjd

other than that i know that charahub has a privacy setting i believe but it also has a size requirement for images so thats a no no since i just want to keep the images as is and not have to crop them blerghghdnk

I usually do because often others have drawn my characters better than I can, and if I'm commissioning work, I want them to have the best example possible to work off of.

If references aren't a problem, you could always keep it to yourself, but then isn't art for showing? =)

True true!

At the moment I've got a seperate folder of art that I've done of the character + initial reference and a seperate folder for art that I have commissioned of said character
I guess it's just that art that I've commissioned is more for my personal enjoyment and thus I don't like to share it with just anyone if that makes sense haha
