incomplete Max Ride meme by imjustellingyou incomplete Max Ride meme by imjustellingyou
I had seen a couple Max Ride memes uploaded that I liked and wanted to do one. But after a couple hours of working, I lost motivation. It was a LONG meme. But I did end up with a couple cool drawings. Here are some mostly finished ones. I'll upload more in this way if I decide to go back to some.

I felt a little bad for not drawing these guys. Maximum Ride was my LIFE back in middle school (particularly 7th grade when I began the series). I use to draw them and only them.
Now I don't draw them at all, and I'm even an admin for the fanclub here on dA!
Since its been so long (and I've improved so much) I had to recreate how I see the characters from memory. I tried not to let the manga adaptation influence me too much (though my drawing of Jeb DID have a mustache).
Bleh, fang is hard to draw without making him look like one of my characters.

It's because the books have become crap. But I still read them to keep up. I'm a bum. And JP is going downhill lately. I blame old age. Also, great drawing.

I completely agree! I started losing interest after the third book, and I haven't even read Angel yet. It seems like the story is losing focus and just adding a bunch of sci fi and environmental filler
and thanks!

Exactly! IT's like he's pushing his cause (I don't mind him being involved, but please, keep to the storyline!!!) Yes, the third book was probably the last good one. After that....ugh. And the characters in ANGEL aren't even IN character. Also, Fang is an asshole. He should've stayed dead in FANG. Seriously. I suggest skipping ANGEL or just renting it. Don't buy it. It's just going to make you miss your money. *shudder* I wish I hadn't read it. Or bought it. But I like JP too much to not to. *sigh* And I get too emotionally attached to characters.

why does everyone say the books are going downhill?

Because they've changed so much. The characters aren't the same as they were in the first three books, their personalities have changed, and the focus of the books has shifted from the kids surviving to saving the environment, when it started out with just Max and her flock surviving. I can understand a gradual shift, I guess, but it just flipped like that *snaps fingers* and no explanation. I think JP has lost his touch with these books. Clearly, you don't feel that way, but I feel as if the characters have lost their own personalities, and that sucks. The books feel different, themselves, too.

I do feel that the books have changed, I just think they are still enjoyable and disagree with a lot of the complaints. for example, people say it was cute when they first got Total, but then people didn't like it when he grew wings and started talking. I don't see a problem with him, and my OTP for maximum ride will always be Total x Akila.

I actually like Total and I'm perfectly fine with him talking. Growing wings is another thing though. It's just...unrelated. It makes no sense for him to have wings, and it doesn't advance the plot. IT's kinda the same thing with all of them being able to breathe underwater. They don't need all these extra talents, it's getting to be too much.
The main reason why I don't like the books (besides the off track environmental activist plot) is that they're not funny or exciting anymore. I use to look up to and identify so much with Max. She was strong, she was a leader, she had the best jokes, she didn't take crap, she protected her loved ones, and no matter how stressed she got she was able to handle anything and laugh it off! After the 3rd book, Max had a different attitude about things and seemed vulnerable to me.
I don't think this is because I grew up or anything like that, though, because I still enjoy reading the 1st three. Particularly Saving the World; I've read that more than enough times.

I just think that he needed something to do with Total--it was getting to be a hassle to write one character carrying him the whole time, so he decided, "hell, I'll just give him wings to fix the problem" and the Akila thing, I think was really dumb. Sorry, no offense, but I think it was really...like something from a children's book, not YA. I didn't have problems with Total until the fourth book. And now he's just getting thrown in occasionally, because he "married" another dog. I don't think the books are enjoyable because, well, they're not focused on sci-fi (as the genre promised) or adventure (T.T) but on saving the environment. Which, I don't mind, but get a different series for that, not this one that already went in one direction. I feel as if he changed direction after the third book. It bothered me. The style of the books changed after the third one, and I don't like it. My opinion, apparently, is not shared by you. Nor does it have to be. :}
