F-18 by imclod F-18 by imclod
F-18 E Superhornet.
My first plane drawing since ages. I emphasized the airflow vortexes somewhat - I've seen some aircraft photos where such vortexes were forming all along the wings or fuselage and it looked interesting. Quite straightforward work otherwise.

Size: A3
Tools: HB, B, 3B pencils, kneaded eraser, cotton pad

Nice, I love how you showed the airflow vortexes. Soon I'm going to apply for the USAF, after I finish my degrees.

Anyways, Amazing job you did here, I felt so proud of my stick figure :(

Thanks! I was originally going to draw the plane without the vortexes, but I'm glad that I eventually included them, it was challenging and looks better in the end :) Good luck with your application!

Well, it takes some time, practice and focus, but if you're dedicated, nothing is impossible :)

Impressive pencil work here, I like the background that makes the hornet pop out more.

A zrovna takú do očí bijúcu asymetriu. A pár rokov praxe, no...

ja som to len musela pochvalit, a este musim odovzdat jednu pochvalu, moja mama mi pozerala cez plece a povedala ze "ti to teda neskutocne kresli" :)
a nahodou tie stare veci by som si pozrela celkom rada

Nie, blbé je, že som to zbadal až po tom, čo som to dávno prestriekal fixatívou a musel som gumovať brúsnym papierom :D Vážim si to, a ďakujem tebe aj mamke :)
Takže tiež stíhačka? Fajn, počkám si teda. :D

No... hlavne prácne.

neuvedomila som si to hned, vidim uz :)
no tu stranku som pozrela celu, skoda ze tam toho nemas viac ako len tie portrety, aj ked tie macky su strasne zlate :D

this is really awesome! Very detailed and precise...I love it! It took a lot of patience to come up with the lines and measurements ?

Thanks :) Yes it took a bit more time to make the sketch; there isn't much freedom with the proportions or features like when you draw a face (like hair for example), but the shading was easier. I made a sketch on a separate piece of paper first - [link] . Lots of helping lines (I even used a ruler for the fuselage axis), erasing, redrawing and so on, until it looks good. I redrawed the lines on a clean sheet of paper then. Also the more reference photos the better. And even then, I didn't notice an error on the hind wings which was spotted by one of my friends after I uploaded it :D

I cant see any error that you pointed out.. :P
When you redraw to a clean sheet, how do you trace it? Using light box?

Not quite, but using the same principle: I put the sketch on the window and then put the clean sheet on it. The downside is, that you must press the paper against the glass while tracing and mustn't move the two papers in respect to each other, but that's about it; it's easy and quick. On bright days, you can trace even through thick paper without difficulties.
