Waiting is the worst thing T^T

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 28, 2008, 1:01 PM

So the comics are due to reach us in the next couple of days. I expected Monday but apparently not. Waiting for them is driving me up the wall with anticipation! I just want to be able to flip through the comic like a proper comic and not through my big folder. Silly i know :p

In other news i got the badges all sorted out for Auchinawa to sell at our table and they came out really nice ^^ I made little packets for them to make them look more buyable. It's amazing how packaging, even simple packaging, can change how a product looks.
:thumb102015346:

I'm working on both building imagni.com behind the scenes and continuing to build nightsintodreams.com, which right now makes me feel happy because I'm glad i can give people something interesting to look at again. I'm really excited for both websites to be honest.

Thankyou so much to everyone who has been buying merch from our online store :)

later guys!

Engelbaum comic merch and other happenings.

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 22, 2008, 11:31 AM

Just an update to say I've added 1 new badge, 2 new wall posters and 2 new paper journals to our merch store :)
www.cafepress.com/imagnistore
They feature current Engelbaum artwork from issue 0, so if you see something you like stick it in your basket ;)

Though... a word of warning to any of our UK customers (or anyone not in the USA) Today i was charged a 17.5% customs charge on a bunch of my badges i bought from them, which was about £12. Which was a bit of a pain in the arse but i suppose quantity bulk shopping always incurs customs charges from the USA. My advice is to make smaller seperate orders to a small money value. Now i have to go pick up our badges from the post depo in the morning! Again with the postman not bothering to knock at the door (DiGi was about to run after him in his PJ's) lol

Thanks to everyone buying Imagni merch recently from our stores! Every little (or lot) helps fund this project so it's all massively apreciated. Doing self publishing is a tough business... but very rewarding in terms of creative freedom ^^

later guys!

Engelbaum now in the mail :)

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 21, 2008, 1:04 PM

Asides from being insanely utterly BORED right now i am also gleeful as 40 shiny copies of Engelbaum are winging their way to me as i type. Printing went 100% problem free, i didn't have to make any bleed edits at all (which had been worrying me). Though... the bleed template they give you IS kind of misleading. It shoves each cropped page either to left or right by a cm depending on what side of the page is touching the spine. But I'll know that in advance for the next issue. Nobody will notice it other than me because I'm a nutty perfectionist.

So... with the comic on its way to us I just have to worry about Auchinawa, moving country and what I'm having for dinner.

I'm having a really rubbish day in terms of art and anything constructive to be honest. I can't even draw a circle right now which is frustrating me no end. My hand is full of fail today. Hopefully stupid random artblock will vanish in time for tommorow. I have things i need to get done but no mojo to achieve it with. Blarrrgh! Maybe i outdrew myself with Engelbaum lol. Plus its freezing in here. It's amazing how when winter starts to come the weather just goes CRAZYMAD overnight.

I'm rambling.
I'mm off to make some... stuff.
xx

.Engelbaum Branch 0 complete and being printed.

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 15, 2008, 3:02 PM

Just a quick update to say that Issue 0 of our comic Engelbaum has been sent to the printers and will hopefully be getting put on paper over the course of the next week or so :)
It's been a very tiring few months but it has totally been worth it in the end now that i can look back at it and think 'wow i actualy colored 32 pieces of art in a month!'.
As it was completed yesterday morning I've been chilling out and getting back into the flow of things non comicy related. Fixing things here and there, writing up big lists of things i want to do before November and so on.

Celebrated comic finishage by making a nice new Imagni layout! The image is taken from this issue, so consider it a sneaky extra preview.

I'll be adding the front cover of issue 0 next week or so, closer to actualy having the comic in our hands. It was hellish trying to do a full color cover overnight from scratch, especialy in a coloring technique I'd never done on the PC before. But it ended up really nice :) I'm excited to show it regardless of how fast i had to do it.

I really can't wait to let you guys loose on this comic X3 It give me the fuzzies. I've read this issue so damn much i can read it off like a memorised movie script D: I really want to start the next issue to give myself something new to look at but we have a lot to get done before that.

I said this in my Myspace and I'll say it here too-
If any of you out there are sitting twiddling your thumbs WANTING to make a comic but don't think you have the ability or the motivation to see it through - just DO it - don't think about it - just draw! If i can do it I'm quite sure you can too. Granted it takes a lot of time and concentration but at the end you have something to really feel proud of :) Go for it i say!

Catch you all later.

Story Writing

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 21, 2008, 12:45 AM
  • Listening to: Sway - Saturday Night Hustle
A-ha! A bunny man appears!
Hello everybody, DiGi here this time! TRiPPY is still asleep as she was up late last night finishing off another page of the Engelbaum comic. I have been meaning to write up a journal of my own but never found the time until now.

So, what have i personaly been up to in regards to this project? Well, in a nutshell, it's my task for everything to make sense to some degree, lol! XD
We'll be sitting down and TRiPPY will suddenly come up with a scene that she's imagined and it's my job to see if that idea has any place in the current running of the story and try and work it into it if it hasn't. If the idea is just too out of place then it's my job to try and think up an alternative idea. It's also my job to work on the storyline itself while TRiPPY works on the arty side of things. We have characters that need developing therefore they'd need storylines of some kind and it would be my job to come up with idea's. So, as of now the story writing is my main job on this comic.
Bloody hell, it's a lot of work though, haha. I've always been fond of a good story with a few twists and turns here or there. I've never actually considered myself to be a writer so this is certainly something new to me. I would think up storylines all the time back in the day but i've never put the skill to use on a real project before.
I've actually been looking online for books about comic book writing and found a few that could help me out when structuring the comics story. I've seen a few books that tell you how to set up storylines, cliff-hangers, plot twists and stuff. However, i'm not too sure which books to buy. Presuming that perhaps one or two of you wonderful people might own a book on this subject, could you recommend a book to me? That would be lovely, thanksi. ^_^

I got one or two more journals to write up but all in good time. You'll most probably hear more from me during October which is when we hopefully will have sent this promo-issue off to the printer and TRiPPY will finally step away from the computer screen for a while, lol. The girl's working her arse off on this one. I wanna take her out to eat when she's finished colouring this thing!
Champagne for the wifey! XD ...actually, maybe just a Bacardi Breezer or something, lol. Can't afford expensive things like champers right now, ahaha! XD;;;;

Right then. So, peoples. If you know of any good books that i can look up on then throw me those suggestions and i'll have a look for them. Ta very much! :)

Next time you hear from me i'll be speaking to you a bit about the story itself. Not in detail but just a few 'heads up' things.
See you then.

-
DiGi

Oh woah ...

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 17, 2008, 8:27 AM
So I'm fittering away on page 14 n 15 of our comic when i stumble across what I've decided is my new *ARTISTIC GOAL* of MUST HAVES before i turn 30.

Wacom Cintiq 21UX 2.0

You are my lord and master... you may have a hefty £1700 price tag.. but ONE DAY. One day mark my words! I don't want your skimpy 12 inch cousin i want your 21 inch MAGNIFICENCE (I'm so in love i can't even be arsed spell checking that).

Oh god I've dreamed of something that awesome to draw with since i first grabbed a mouse when i was 13. I can't draw on PC's worth crap, my lines are all over the place, I'm only just starting to get to grips with colors. But being able to actualy draw what you're seeing on the screen/tablet and be able to sit on a comfy sofa and pick up different pens to use on it... *dreamy sigh*...

Anyone here own one? Know someone who does? I was just wondering how weird glass feels to draw on since i hate using my DS for that reason :B

I'm currently using a very nice wacom bamboo i got for my last birthday which is very very good (best tablet I've used so far), but woah... that MONSTER BEAST of a DEVINE tablet up there is like StarTrek stuff.

Does anywhere make like actual fibre based graphic brushes? I love painting with real brushes but tablets always make it feel to hard and not flowy enough. If they made some sort of digital brush with optic sensor strands or somethingsomething.. ignore me I'm drooling.

Anyhoo back to work for me, just came online to squeal like a small excitable child.

...

wait if they combined the paperlike texture of that Sony Reader book thing and a tablet it would feel like the real thing. I hope they do that in the future.

Toodles!

USPS you truely are something to behold ...

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 12, 2008, 8:08 AM
Ok so we'd been waiting about 2 weeks for our Ka-Blam sample comic to arrive via UPS. Wondering where it'd had gotten to since having to wait 2 weeks + print time = less time to work on comic before the convention. You know what standard UPS "tracking" is like, lol, non existant.
Well i already didn't trust them much because of a few years ago i was sat upstairs waiting on a parcel at my old place, WATCHING the delivery guy walk towards my house parcel in hand. He didn't knock on the door or anything! He didn't even leave a ' parcel undelivered ' note through the door. My dog didn't even bark (it always does when someone is at the door). So i thought that was a one off incident...

Today DiGi was heading off for work when he discovered our comic parcel under the doormat!! It'd been delivered last week or something. Wtf seriously. Are they not allowed to put things (of small size!) through your door but leave it in a public place for anybody to steal? That's crazy!

I'm now worried that something equaly as DUMB will happen when it comes to the first print run of our comics. If they go missing I'll be incredibly pissed off. Man i thought the Royal Mail could be a bit dense sometimes...

Ranting aside, the preview comic looks really nice (it smells funny >.> ) so lets hope Engelbaum prints out as good :) I've been printing out each page as i go along on my regular printer just to check quality. Going half decent so far. As long as the pale pinks dont print as dark purpley screaming magenta we'll be fine <3

Finishing page 11 just now, will be working on 12 tonight.
More updates on our progress as they happen.

All 10 Engelbaum preview pages now online!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 4, 2008, 11:56 AM
Thought I'd update this thing since i uploaded page 10 today. Page ten is the last page from issue 0 to be uploaded onto D.A. Perhaps with future issues we will show a page or two without showing obvious spoilers for people who want to read it in order. Don't worry, we won't leave this account to die now that the preview is finished! :) Nah, we'll upload more engelbaum related things to it as we go.

So now i have until the end of september to get the other 22 pages colored. It's very hard work.

Decided the *theme* in my brain for issue 0 would have to be 'See Who i Am' by Within Temptation. I know i keep going on about them but i love their lyrics and sound.

See who i Am:

Is it true what they say,
Are we too blind to find a way?
Fear of the unknown cloud our hearts today.
Come into my world,
See through my eyes.
Try to understand,
Don't want to lose what we have

We've been dreaming
But who can deny,
It's the best way of living
Between the truth and the lies

See who I am,
Break through the surface.
Reach for my hand,
Let's show them that we can
Free our minds and find a way.
The world is in our hands,
This is not the end.

Fear is withering the soul
At the point of no return.
We must be the change
We wish to see.
I'll come into your world,
See through your eyes.
I'll try to understand,
Before we lose what we have.

We just can't stop believing
cause we have to try.
We can rise above
Their truth and their lies.

See who I am,
Break through the surface.
Reach for my hand,
Let's show them that we can
Free our minds and find a way.
The world is in our hands,

See who I am,
Break through the surface.
Reach for my hand,
Let's show them that we can
Free our minds and find a way.
The world is in our hands,
This is not the end.

I hear the silence
Preaching my blame.
Will our strength remain
If their power reigns?

See who I am,
Break through the surface.
Reach for my hand,
Let's show them that we can
Free our minds and
find a way.
The world is in our hands,

See who I am,
Break through the surface.
Reach for my hand,
Let's show them that we can
Free our minds and
find a way.
The world is in our hands,
this is not the end.

Working on page 6 today... WTF O_o.

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 2, 2008, 3:06 AM
... who got us a subscription??? Lol i just noticed when i logged in to update our journal. Thankyou very much  Nice start to the day lol.
... Now i can post silly stuff in this thing XD

I logged in to say a quick, working on page 6 today, I'm a bit ill and worn out though so it'll probably take me all day. Determined to get it done however.
I'm glad so many of you liked yesterdays upload, i get a kick when people look into my art more than a quick glance. I don't really try to draw *good* i just want to draw something that looks like what it is, and to have people *feel* something. Any kind of emotion really. Art is all about feeling and when it's combined with a story i guess it's like watching a little movie. One day i would love to have all this animated...

I've had a lot of moral support on this project from a number of amazing people. Some of which you would not believe... lol. We're very lucky. When Engelbaum hits the shelves we have some big people lending a helping hand :)

Now i have to go scan the lineart and get to work.
Take care of yourselves
xxx

TRiPPY

Edit 2/september

Today's page upload will happen sometime later in the afternoon due to the fact it's the most detailed INSANE thing I've drawn in my life and despite working on it for 2 days i think i should give it a bit more TLC rather than just vomming colors on it

It's a double page spread.

...

IT MOCKS ME WITH ITS DETAILS.

My index finger is mangled from holding my pen... i should get some kind of cushy plaster thing so i don't end up with a hilaruously deformed nub of a finger.
*sadfinger*

Now excuse me for a few hours, i have art to beat with a large stick.

TRiP

edit 1/september

I was asked what songs inspired me with Engelbaum issue 0 (as i always draw scenes to music). (sometimes lyrics inspire me with story too). So here is a small list of what to expect in Issue 0 :)

See who i am - Within Temptation
In the End- Linkin Park
Design for life- Manic Street Preachers
The new Workout plan- Kanye West
Livin on a Prayer- Bonjovi
4 minutes- Madonna & Justin
Jillian- Within Temptation

And that's all i can remember right now XD;

----------------------------------------

Just a quick update to say I finished inking the entire comic today! :D So all that is left is to color it page by page! I'll be uploading the first 10 pages as i complete them here to DA.

I'll also probably try and get a DA subscription and make some funky graphics for this page, it seriously needs pimped up!

Thanks to everyone who has commented on our new work or watched us (or both!) over the past 3 days. It really makes me happy to know that people are getting hyped for Engelbaum! I've wanted to do this properly for years now, so to finaly have it almost complete in my hands is like eating chocolate coated chocolate. Thankyou! :D

I should take the time to say YES we will be selling Engelbaum issue 0 online (and offline). But the online sales will have to wait until after Auchinawa and a short while until we settle into our new home, so no orders go missing etc etc. We want to run this thing smoothly.

I'm going to start putting the comic preview up in the next few days. So sit tight!

~TRiPPY

------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will be adding bits of character art and other goodies to this page in the meantime before and after the comic goes on sale!

Engelbaum will premiere at Auchinawa 2008 Glasgow in November. Be sure to come over to our table and buy a copy ^^

You can also visit our website www.imagni.com and add us to your Myspace friends, or buy some of our current Engelbaum merch (that would be very nice XD )We have 2 book type things on sale already so be sure to check out the links at imagni.com.

Stick around!
