I suppose I'll write about my own most recent experience. Recently moved out of my childhood home that I'd lived in for 17 years. It was both exciting and.... melancholic? Somber? Having to say goodbye to everything and everyone I'd known, not knowing when or if I'd seen any of it, any of them, again. And seeing a room that was normally so cluttered with things, suddenly be so sterile. Absent of things outside the door that would slowly pile up, as the room tried to hold me in. But it only proved that I couldn't continue living there. Like an aging hermit crab I'd become too big for that shell. So I forged my own path and found a new, bigger shell. I'll miss the people and the land, I'll cherish the memories, but I'll never forget how much it hurt to say goodbye.
