Sylestia World Map - Commission by Ilenora Sylestia World Map - Commission by Ilenora
Commission for ~Meowzer2u of the world map for her upcoming virtual pet game, Sylestia.

This map is hugely detailed, with over 50 individually drawn towns, buildings, and other landmarks scattered all over. It took a lot of effort but I'm really pleased with the outcome :D

The map can be found in the game where you can use it to explore all the various areas. Clicking a region will bring up a full size version of that area, so all the detail can be seen and appreciated by players.

Sylestia is a fun RPG styled web game with brilliant exploration and questing and highly customisable pets and player avatars. I recommend checking it out - it's not yet finished but there's still heaps to do :D

All rights to this work belong to Sylestia. www.sylestia.com

How much, in points, might it be to get a map like this one done?

I swear I've seen an island almost exactly like this, several years ago. It had something to do with robots and these freaky magic masks, but that's all I remember.

I'm not sure, that description doesn't sound like anything I've heard of. I did draw this in 2012 and it got a fair bit of attention at the time so it's possible somebody used my art :)

No, the one I'm thinking of came long before this. And it was a big company behind it.

I think it was a LEGO thing...

Well I just drew this to the client's specifications and didn't use any references so I guess it's just a coincidence :)

As this is a commission I cannot allow you to use it without the permission of the client, Meowzer2u who owns the game it is used in, www.sylestia.com. You will have to get in touch with them.

Do you take small requests? Cause your art is really cool, and I kind of need a small simple map for something as well too.

Virtual Pet List, it's a forum for... well, virtual pet sites :dummy:
You can post in the Services forum if you have a request for something, or in the art marketplace if you're looking to commission ^_^ www.virtualpetlist.com/forums/…
There's lots of pet site artists on there so someone should be able to help you out.

Wonderful! I love maps! I like how this one seems top down, but the angled features really give a sense of direction and a clear vision of the terrain.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it :meow: I prefer the perspective look for features on a map rather than a top-down view, it makes everything much more dimensional.

Yeah! :D Inspired by your map, I made my own in my sketchbook and tried the 3D-features-thing you did. The perspective didn't quite turn out how I wanted it, but I totally see what you mean now that I've done something similar. (I went with a top-down view for the land, and then the features were at an angle, but the effect was really weird instead of cool. @_@)I think bird's eye view maps are better for political boundaries and cities, but I like seeing the landscape for, like, fantasy stuff or worlds more nature based. :D

I think they are, and I love your map, especially how it seems to have many layers, so they can trigger certain places to appear only after you reach that point in the story.

Yes, every landmark is on it's own layer so that various places can be hidden and revealed along the course of the game. It makes for quite a large PSD file :XD: It was tricky getting every layered perfectly, as each region - including the trees and land for that area - is each sorted into it's own group of folders.

I think it was well worth it, I really enjoyed places being revealed as I completed quests. I especially liked the mushroom forest.
