In this week’s change log, tag pages get a brand new look! We’ve also implemented a number of bug fixes and smaller improvements. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming! Redesigned Tag Pages The design of tag pages has been uplifted in Eclipse, featuring a cleaner design that puts more emphasis on the art itself. Starting today, we are moving to continuous development cycle on Eclipse, meaning we will be releasing changes more frequently throughout the week rather than once a week. The change logs will still be posted once a week, but they will now be a recap of the past week’s changes. What's Next for Eclipse: Feedback
Late last year, we released the beta version of DeviantArt Eclipse – a redesign that puts more emphasis on artists and their art. It’s one of our biggest, most ambitious updates to date, which is why we’ve chosen to open it to Beta Testers as early as we did. Not only do we need Beta Testers’ help locating and squashing those pesky bugs, we want to gain deviants’ feedback, thoughts, and opinions on the current Eclipse experience and what we should include in the future. We’re very proud and excited with the level of collaboration we’ve been able to achieve with the DeviantArt community, and we hope to continue this as we further develop Eclipse. The Beta version of Eclipse has brought many changes (see them here), with even more in store, including ways to customize and personalize Profiles! We Hear You! Since the Beta launch of Eclipse late last year, we’ve received a lot of feedback regarding just that: Feedback. You might have called it a few other names in the past: Feedback
Eclipse Change Log: January 16, 2019
In this week’s change log, we have a small handful of bug fixes and improvements as we continue with the larger features that are in development. Stay tuned for more, and keep the bug reports and feature requests coming! Improved the way thumbnails are cropped across the site Ability to delete drafts was not accessible from the draft dropdown (Thanks, @3wyl and @mrs-durden!) Clicking on Donation Pool section's delete button did not actually delete the section (Thanks, @dominiquevial) The submission process was missing literature options (Thanks to the anonymous deviant who reported this!) Deviant hover cards now properly tell you if you’re already watching someone The "Featured" checkbox is now preserved when editing a published journal that was previously featured (Thanks, @stygma) Various other smaller bug fixes and stability improvements Keep Sharing Your Feedback! Hello everyone! In November, a change was made as part of a larger ongoing revamp in how image hosting and processing is handled here on DeviantArt. However, as part of the process, some complications arose that have taken longer to address than previously hoped, and as such we wanted to provide some transparency on the matter.

First and foremost, thank you for your bug reports and comments with regard to these recent changes! The feedback that we've received has helped us nail down some of the primary issues that have needed attention. To clarify also, as it came up in a number of comments: the image processing changes are unrelated to DeviantArt Eclipse. As the timing of both overlapped, we fully understand that it might have seemed that the issues created by the image processing changes were connected to Eclipse, but we do want to reassure you that they are separate projects.

While some specific fixes are still in the works at this particular moment in time, here are a list of some of the things that have been addressed/are in the process of being fixed:
  • When clicking the "Download" button on a deviation with downloads enabled and saving the image from there, the title of the deviation and the deviant's username were not included in the file name. (Fixed as of January 4th)
  • There are quality issues when displaying some JPG files on site currently.
    • On this topic, some deviants have noted that some PNG files are being converted to JPG files. This has been a regular procedure on DeviantArt in the past to keep page load times low in situations where multiple images are displayed at dimensions smaller than the original uploaded image. Fixing the quality issues with displaying JPG files will hopefully mitigate these concerns.
  • Some particularly large files aren't being resized properly.
  • Links to images stored in Sta.sh stop working after a certain amount of time, even when the image is still stored in a deviant's Sta.sh.
We're continuing to work on the aforementioned issues and we'll do our best to keep you informed as things happen, so stay tuned for further updates. Thank you for your patience, and your continued support. Stay devious!

So if I saved my file as a JPG beforehand then the quality will be clear when uploaded? I'm putting a lot of effort into my art but the pieces don't look as good anymore because of the quality problem.

any idea how long it'll take to get the image urls fixed? i've had to use other hosting sites since the long urls became a thing, and it's quite an inconvenience, especially when i have to use image urls for customization/journals

not being able to host images on deviantart/stash and use the image address elsewhere is very frustrating.
it used to be a simple image url, but now it's long with a bunch of stuff and I still haven't found a way to make them work.
is this a bug or something you've done on purpose? would really like it fixed.

Copying image address no longer works and leads to a broken image, no idea what's causing it to break but hoping it can get fixed for using on sites that you can't upload images on

5 months later and they still haven't bothered to fix it. Honestly used to like DA, was even going to start getting core and putting money into the site, but why should I when they can't get things fixed that are clearly causing a problem for so many?

Images cant be traced to original location. So you cant use <img src> to display new stash images any longer. They stay up for a few hours then the link is corrupt and they no longer display.

Well... Hope the png to jpg will be fixed soon now...
It's really heartbreaking to see horrible pixelated files with no proper name when we DL them.......

PNGs are completely broken now and can't be uploaded to DA, why is that?

Hi there! I'm afraid I can't replicate the problem you're running into, png files are still uploadable as far as I can tell. Are you running into a particular error message when trying to upload a png file?
Cryptillian's avatar
CryptillianHobbyist Digital Artist
Basically the image will say it’s been uploaded but won’t show and just shows the title of the deciantariom in the top left hand corner. Tons of other people are dealing with this issue currently, not just me. Some people are saying it’s large png files having this issue.

Can you let me know what size png you're trying to upload (height/width/size in MB), and link me to a few other people who are running into this as well? I'm trying to figure out the source and whether or not it's related to the things mentioned in this journal, to see what needs to be done to get this up and working, and the extra info will help with that. Thank you!

I'm afraid I'm still not able to replicate it. What os/browser are you trying to upload from when you run into these issues?

It actually seems that the issue has been resolved today! I tried from Microsoft edge from my pc and safari on my iPhone. Both didn't work at the time but now I am having no issues, I will check in with others to see if it's fixed on their end now as well!
