You know how there's a 'featured deviation' widget for the profile page? There should be a featured favorite deviation widget, 'cause there have been multiple instances where I like someone else's deviation enough to want to just post a pic of it on my main page.

Hey I have a question, I tried making a group it said it was accepted but encountered errors during conversion :tears:

I neglected to put this in the survey feedback, and I apologize if there is an official reason why DA can't implement this, but I'd love to be able to input symbols and other languages in submission titles. I think it'd be great for non-English speakers as well as allow for more creativity in naming. I think I read that there are safety issues wish this, but since many other sites allow this I think DA should as well. Anyway, cheers!

I don't know if someone has talked about this bug already, but here's what I've noticed: when I go to my group's gallery ([link]), I can no longer sort at to folders by hovering over the thumbnails and clicking the little pencil icon. The pencil icon doesn't appear. Instead, I have to go to the Featured folder ([link]) and do the sorting there. Annoying. :/

Loading problem for me is that it says the "entity is too large" and I wont be able to load my files at all without it being 700 x 700 =.=...seriously instead of not ignoring people who says they don't like this layout, why not change it back and listen to us. Aren't our opinion still mean something to you? You guys are starting to be like YouTube where there layout gets worse every year just like this but only this has bug problems
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I can DEFINITELY Assure you that Youtube is worse with the bugs than DA. XD

Heck, I can't even check my messages anymore, half of the videos won't load the whole page so I can see the comments (or keep play lists playing, save a video, etc). I can't see half of the videos the people I subscribed to made unless I click their names, the list goes on.

I do agree that DA does have it's share of problems, but to be honest, the site at least works and all the conventional stuff I need to do, I can do without a problem (check messages, upload images, etc). All I'm saying is, "Save your gasoline and pitch forks for Youtube, cause trust me, DA fixes their problems (ableit slowly, the do), Youtube is the one that's getting worse.

Wrong. That's just your Internet connection. I don't have ANY issues with YouTube what-so-ever. :P
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I kind of deserved that actually. In fact, just after my last comment, I actually changed my browser from Chrome to Firefox and like a dope....found out that Youtube is now flawless.

Hehe, what comes around goes around. XD

KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 13, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Gosh, I feel like trash for what I said. Please forgive my rudeness. I'm terribly sorry and it was uncalled for of me to take what you said personally. Regardless of the issue, it IS technically my problem that Youtube doesn't work, and while I don't fancy the new layout very much, it does at least work and that should be good enough for me.
kamranm102 Featured By Owner Mar 15, 2013  Professional Interface Designer
Well, I'm sorry if I was being rude or an a hole in any way. Please forgive me.

Ah, it's alright. See, I couldn't tell if you were joking or making fun of me, but I know DA has the most misleading : p smilie (it looks like :p when it should look like ;p ).

Either way, I was having a bad day and I shouldn't have gotten mad about that. Whatever the case was, it was my problem. Still, I appreciate you forgiving me, and I whole heartedly forgive you. :)
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 12, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Look, I apologize for my outlashing comment. I'm just tired of dealing with people who make me look bad. Assuming that I know nothing about what I'm doing and am just attacking things without a base. I've just dealt with too many people like that before. If you were joking, then that's what my first response was for, but some jokes are best told once, then left to die.
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 12, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Sir, I really would appreciate it if you'd stop being sarcastic/rude about my computer issues. As you have no idea of what was going on on my own computer and frankly, I have a VERY good internet connection at home (a horrible one at my college), yet in both cases, Chrome was acting really buggy. It might have been the extension I downloaded, it could've been all the background stuff that is running via Chrome, it could've been anything, but I THINK I know how to check my connection.

Anyway, if you have a solution or would like to provide some actual insight of what may be the problem, then I'd greatly appreciate it, but if you're only solution is, "You're wrong cause your net sux." Then why should I respect what you have to say?
gorocile Featured By Owner Mar 5, 2013  Student Digital Artist
-nods- True that true that.
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 5, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Hehe, not to mention, I guess it's fair that DA DOES allow us to comment here. You have to practically HACK Youtube to find the report button (and good luck with that. A girl reported a guy's video for using art that he stole from her, and they declined because, and I'm NOT even kidding you, "She's not popular enough to own copyright." Not even joking...that's exactly what they said, I saw the screenshot. (The guy however was nice about it, so we didn't have to go further thankfully). But man, I'm sorry for playing Devil's advocate here, but DA almost banned a girl for drawing hate art of one of my characters, Youtube refused to even touch a guy for outright STEALING art from someone. Google needs to be put in thier place. XD
(Sorry for spilling my rant about Youtube on you like this, but man it feels good to tell people about what they do.)
gorocile Featured By Owner Mar 5, 2013  Student Digital Artist
Yeah you're absolutely right. I guess I got upset over this because I couldn't submit larger pictures like I usually do but I know that's gonna be fixed. I shouldn't be so hard about this matter anyways so its okay to rant!
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 6, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Ah, don't even worry. You had every right to. I mean, If I couldn't upload images of a large size cause the site told me I couldn't, I'd be pretty mad myself. I actually got confused cause I can upload images of any size I want (and in fact, it encourages me to upload larger images, but I don't go higher than 1280x1280 cause beyond that, full screen requires side scrolling and that's annoying.) Hehe! But yeah, I just look for any excuse to put Youtube in their place! Though I gotta admit, I am enjoying not being able to see my messages as in the very least, I'm less likely to be targetted by trolls anymore! XD

Reithya Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
There's something you guys did with premium memberships that is driving me insane. You have a non-closable tab above the print button for premium members about getting our art at base price, as well as a tab saying that we can submit it as a print if the file is large enough. Now, I understand that some premium members did not know about those benefits, but for it to appear on every single deviation I'm looking at for it to be there as big as it is, is EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING. Find a way to close it or for it to be a mouse-over link or something, so that it's still convenient without being annoying. I do not submit all of my artwork as prints for certain reasons, so having the reminder that you guys want more prints really makes me suspicious of what you're trying to do here.
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I'm not even a premium member and I get that tab on all my art actually. I thought it was flattering at first, but I just ignore it. I'm not selling my art.
Reithya Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Ah, okay then. :) It's been awhile since I was a regular member, thank you for letting me know it's happening for other people too! (I know that my previous comment sounds a bit high horsed, but I promise I meant nothing by it for others. My mistake. ;n; )
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Ah, don't even worry about it! XD I do always like to help people out who may have misunderstood certain things as it may shed a little light on what's going on with the situation.

Oh and don't even worry about the whole "premium vs. non premium". You deserve what you pay for and by all means, I'm more than happy for you for it! I just tend to find it weird when non premiums get stuff that premiums normally get.

It's great to see an update focus on bug fixes.

Although I can't see it listed, it seems like some progress has been made on the sent-notes-get-saved-in-Drafts bug I sent a report (and video) about a couple weeks ago, as I can't replicate it so easily in Chrome anymore. I think it still happens in Firefox, but I haven't checked since the update notice went up.

There are still a few things that quickly become irritations, chiefly that many buttons seem to need clicking twice to work nowadays. It'd be great if you could keep up the focus on tightening up the site backend before returning to dreaming up features that tend to get poorly received while ignoring our suggestions here. =P

Ok, I've started to notice a disturbing trend.

Lately, there has been a lot of art surfacing of Cock, Vaginal, Nipple and Anal Vore

Vore is consuming a person alive, usually eating them whole.
Cock vore shows a character being consumed by another's penis.
Vaginal Vore, sometimes known as unbirthing, shows a character being consumed by another's vagina.
Nipple Vore shows a character being consumed by another's nipple.
Anal Vore shows a character being consumed by another's anus.

Now DA has policies on Vaginal and Anal spreading, but the other two are in legal grey zones.

Plus the report options don't even have a tic box for oral sex, which also seems to be gaining popularity in being submitted.

Can't DA make it where certain keywords, either in the title, keyword box or artist description bring up warnings and TOS reminders so that these people know this stuff is not allowed, and posting something with the keywords puts the deviation on some kind of watch list to be reviewed and action taken where needed?

I mean the key words "Anal vore" should easily bring up a pop up saying "Depictions of anal sex is ...." so the person knows its not allowed on DA and will be less likely to post.

I've had to fill out several dozen reports tonight due to violations of anal sex and anal vore alone.

It seems that DA is starting to overall be more lenient on porn lately. While I don't personally endorse it, nor am I against it, it's just lately a trend that seems to be something that the admins prefer to sweep under the rug. Kind of like reporting that the ice cream contains nuts cause you're allergic to them when the admins love nuts in their icecream.

What I DO agree with is that if drawn pornagraphy is to be allowed (which I kind of feel that it should, since this is a universal art site and what IS reportable IS fair for reporting), I think there should be better filters so that people can't see things that would gross them out or the are sensitive to, while still allowing for the mature filter to be off. THEN, you could report them for false labeling. Otherwise, I feel like you're fighting a forest fire with a watering can. (And believe me, even as a nude artist, I do agree with you that some fetishes are a bit too "grotesque" for this site, but that's where the filter system overall needs to be better, cause otherwise, one can just as easily say, "Just turn on the filter", as stupid as that sounds. OH and FurAffinity is WAY worse in that regard).
Yamitora1 Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Well, there is artistic nude, porn nude and most common on here "I just got a new cellphone with a camera, look at these nasty, not been washed or just got out of the shower but didn't clean good, hairy genitals" nude.

It wouldn't be half bad if DA got some gonads to enforce some quality control on photographic deviations. Art can be many things, but only if some thought is put into it. Even "found" art and art "sculpted" from junk takes some brain power to craft. Not some picture as described above.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude and I have accounts on several adult art sites like FA, HF even Y!G but they ironically have better rules for quality control then here. If I type in the word nude in the search function here, I don't want some cellphone camera picture of a guy in a mirror with a stupid grin on his face because he's smuggling Bin Laden's Beard. I want the statue of David, the Creation of Man, The Venus De Milo, heck even Betty White nude photos from the 1940's and in some cases a current nude pic of her is favorable compared to some of the stuff people post up on here that not even AF, HF or Y!G allows.

Da also seems to be unable to tell the difference between erect penises and flaccid penises. I go by rule of thumb, if its got big, throbbing veins, its erect. But DA seems to have some weird definition for erect penises. I reported a picture (drawn in crayon of all the crap) of a nude woman kick boxer with a erect penis up her anus, and it still was marked invalid.

If they're not going enforce the rules, then they should just do away with FAQ #23: What are deviantART's policies on nudity? , FAQ #251: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic literature'; what do you consider this to be? , FAQ #305: Is posting 'Adult' oriented artwork alright if I censor it first? and FAQ #565: You prohibit the submission of 'pornographic imagery'; what do you consider this to be? since they don't even bother enforcing half the stuff out lined in the rules.

Especially 305, since I've come across many pictures that are censored porn, but were not removed. I've even reported them with links to the actual picture and still the were marked invalid.

DA is getting lazy, and its bringing the quality of the site down. and if the admins do get off their butts and do their jobs, they're removing pictures that aren't even breaking any rules or are 100x tamer then the stuff that they let slip by. I know a artist that had a picture of the Naruto characters Naruto and Sasuke about to kiss removed. It was just their heads, and they were not being sexualized or anything, which brings into question rather or not DA is homophobic because many pictures of straight and/or lesbian images get by with tons of stuff that pictures of two men don't get away with.

faq565 even states

• Sexual Intercourse.
Subjects should not be depicted in a clear display of sexual intercourse. This includes depictions of sexual penetration, oral to genital contact, genital to anal contact, and oral to anal contact without exception. Some depictions of same sex genital to genital contact and some depictions of oral to breast contact might qualify under this guideline as adjudicated by staff but not all will be considered an automatic violation of policy.

If DA wants to be respected, and not seen as just some greedy, capitalistic, homophobic, rate my penis site, then they seriously need to step up their game, rewrite the rules and actually enforce them. If sites like FA, HF or Y!G can allow porn but still restrict certain things and keep quality control assurance, than why can't DA?

Is it asking for the moon to just want to browse the site and not get confronted by a image of someone being farted on, someone being swallowed by a anus or some picture of a poor hygienic person's genitalia; while keeping things fair and treating every picture equally no mater the sexual orientation of it subject matter?
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 5, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yes, in that respect you are absolutely right. Even with pornagraphy allowed (despite subliminably), there should still be some level of quality control to prevent stuff that's just obscene or being hosted for the sake of being explicit. Photographs, explicit sex for the sake of arousal (not for the sake of character development or artistic merit, which very few people do properly), and so on are definitely examples of things that should be removed from this site.

I just feel bad for telling you what I did because there was a case where a lady was uploading nude photos of herself for DA points (prostitution) and DA explicitly stated that it's "allowed", they removed her gallery a month later though because I guess enough people finally pointed out that prostitution is the BAD kind of artistic nudity, no matter what, but despite that, it makes me feel that it's futile to try to report the deviations just cause of that alone.

Thier own rules state that almost all forms of porn art banned, which is also perplexing, so they need to address their own FAQ on it, or enforce thier rules (I personally prefer them to just change the rules and have a better eye on what to moderate, I feel half my gallery would be deleted if they based it off of what they have), but in either regard, the problem is something that they need to fix, so I agree entirely.

They should either:
1. Update their rules to be more specific about what kind of porn/nude art is allowed.

2. Introduce a better filter system and include a sense of quality control

3. Hire mini-mods to help clean up the site so that the quality control should be enforced.

Cause you're absolutely right, while I don't think that all forms of sexual intercourse is bad, I do think that in this day and age, most kind of sex that's shown in sites like this is very vulgar and purely made for arousal or fetish reasons (and being a femininst myself (if you can believe that), I do find it very appalling that most of these "sexual images" take the form of women being nothing more than sexual gratification objects, which is why it's mostly some big guy's cock shoved into them, but never them on top), and if DA's going to have quality control on cartoony art versus realism, they should at LEAST have quality control over bad porn versus good nude art/images.
Yamitora1 Featured By Owner Mar 6, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Amen to that, and yes, the nudity for fetishism art is getting out of hand. In fact, the fetishism art is just plain getting out of hand.

I come across tons of images of underage female and even male characters that are nothing more than podophilia (foot fetish) pandering art. But I know If I tried to report it, it would go unheard since they're technically not breaking the rules even tho you know the people viewing it are getting off on it.

Da should also make it so that putting underage characters in a fetishism art piece counts as sexualizing them, but then I've seen plenty of pieces that still get let by despite male underage characters doing what you just described, using females as sex objects.

I am a Naruto fan, and a few months back I reported a image of a male character (sasuke) who is underage, and in the image he was lifting the skirt and feeling the rump of a adult female (suzune?). But somehow that is allowed

One thing DA could do is give everyone the ability to suggest, edit and/or add keywords and filters for art. I think Pixiv does it, If i'm not mistaken. And If users can vote on a image's content, sexual or otherwise, it could be used to show that image to the more appropriate audiences. and of course only allow certain questions to appear to certain age groups.

1: Rate this picture's appropriate age group
O Children 2-9, Pre-teens 10-12, Teens 13-16 Young Adults 16-19 O Adult/Explicit 18+

DA could easily put a 5 question poll that is generated to a random user, which can ask questions like that and be used to help with the filtering system. The questions can ask for a response via tick box, or fill in the blank and use keywords typed by the user. And people who chose to be Beta Testers can choose to receive these kind of questions on ever deviation if they want, to further help DA. And from one standpoint, this would help some people further appreciate the art, since they might be more inclined to study it closer to better answer the question(s)

So say I get a fill in a blank question asking what is in the picture, and its a picture of Dragonball Z's Son Goku nude in a hot spring, I can type "Son Goku nude in a outdoor Hot Spring, bathing." Or "Naked male character in hotspring" If I didn't know the character or "Adult age, male character in a Japanese Onsen bathing." And the DA computers can pick out the key words Naked, Nude, Hot spring, hotspring, male, Onsen, outdoor and bathing to apply filters and help the image be found via the site's search engine.
KaoNinjaratzu Featured By Owner Mar 6, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yeah, kind of like the way the "More like this" system works. It is very strange how easy it is to bypass the filters (which is funny considering about 3 years ago, they hard wired it so that you had to be above 18 to turn off the filter, but now, they're allowing even underaged characters to be depicted as nude or in fetish like settings, which even FurAffinity has banned completely).

I think it would be best if people could do like Inkbunny does, where we can type in filters that we feel should be added or even block certain keywords so that certain images don't come up (like if one were to block the key word, "underage male" then any images depicting underage males would be blocked and if they aren't, the person can add the tag or something).

It's overall a complex system though, especially since some people are pretty lazy when it comes to tags (and I'd know, I really don't like adding them myself, but I try to cover all bases), but in the least bit, it's still the responsibility of the site itself to at least limit the impact of artwork we don't wish to see by having a system that can help filter out these things and definitely making their rules make more sense in the long run.

What really gets me is the category system. We're required to pick a category, but what does the category do? It's very rare that if I'm to search an image of a wolf, I'd care if it was traditionally or digitally drawn. The category system should be used to determine the theme of the art, such as "Cartoony", "fetish based", "realistic", "photography" etc. That way, they can build the mature filter (or any filter) around that instead of just relying on very basic stuff like "Nudity", which can go so many ways. These are all very good ideas you're bringing up. It's probably going to be awhile before DA (if they do) ever implements these ideas, but eh, it's only to help them out in the long run.
Yamitora1 Featured By Owner Mar 7, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Oh yeah, Inkbunny does do that. And don't worry, as long as its in the title or description, its a tag. I can post a picture of a Zombie Pokémon eating brains, and if I write My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the description, then any search of My Little Pony will bring up that Zombie Pokémon eating brains.

In fact, using HTML code you can type hidden tags in the description. Which unfortunately can be used to bypass the filters in question :(

Y-Gallery has a system like what you mean with the category. You can add filters/tags based on character, age group, fetish ect. DA should try and model their system after Y!G a little.

I know when you select the mature tag feature, there should be additional options other then the bare to the bone minimum ones they currently have now.

Still doesn't mention the problem with the mobile upload or the video ads that keep crashing my tablet. And if the line, "Your input is highly valued and will help to shape the course of Site Update articles in the future." was remotely true then why is it so hard to get a response from the staff in regards to anything. Not to mention if you submit to deviant art then you giving your art away for free. I seen artist works from this site on the streets around here (nYc) being sold. These issues are just a couple that keep me from getting a membership with this site. I love the art, but as so many others I don't trust this site.

I also experience problems with uploading.
Since the uploading process is essentially a JS overlay, it's a total mess on mobile browsers. The "Features" sidebar where you can choose downloadability, premium content and submit prints vanishes BEHIND the form elements and are not clickable. The "contains mature content" radio buttons were not clickable in portrait orientation, but they worked in landscape. Very annoying, I'm afraid...

Also, I guess no one noticed my last week's report, the problems still persist...

Well, I guess Deviant Art has upgraded itself beyond my computer.
I am running a G5 Apple Mac with the top version of Tiger OS. The latest Safari browser isn't accepted for uploading art so followers, it's goodbye. I was about to upload a pile of stuff - I've been clearing my old work out but Deviant has refused it.
I am disgusted that I would have to buy an Intel Mac which would allow me to show you my work because I need another higher OS and browser.
We used to have backwards compatibility but corporate greed has knocked that one on the head. No wonder Apple is sitting on billions of dollars.
I was always a faithful Apple user but now I feel suckered. It looks like the dark side from now on.
Perhaps my 14 year old grandson can build me a computer.....

Not impressed.

Category section still not loading in submission on latest stable version of Chrome regardless of add-ons disabled or add-ons removed. I tire rapidly of this issue and this website.

You know how a group can specify its location? Well, could a group maybe specify its language as well? I only ask because I run some English-only groups, and it's kind of annoying when someone joins and then constantly breaks the rules because they can't read or understand them. Sure, the front page being written 100% in English should give away the group's language, but some people seem to ignore that.
