Don't reference without permission of the original artist(s).
Don't claim to other people's work.
Don't steal their characters, ideas, stories, anything that never belonged to you (it's plagiarism).
And don't ever try to make money off of anything of the sort (copyright claims).
Don't fucking do it.
At least if you're going to do anything like that, don't expect praise, glory, fame or even infamy from it, because no one wants to see it on the internet. Not me. Don't post it anywhere where anyone can see it. Don't. Just. Don't.
Wanna see amazing artwork, hard effort and heavily detailed pieces that just reek with amazingness? Pick up a pencil, mouse, tablet pen, hell, your freakin' iPad whatever, and DRAW. Practice, get confident, then come back in the ring, prepared, like a mature person.
Praise, fame and glory (and riches to follow if you're aiming to be successful) only come to those who work hard and slave over their talents and skills to improve and become better people as they do so. I strive for this myself, so I can become even better of a person who takes constructive criticisms to heart and opens up to a new way of looking at things. I've been drawing since I was a child. 12 is when I started to get "good". I never once recolored, stolen, copied or traced shit when I was a kid (and posted it on the interwebs for all to see and laugh at). I've never done it here (do you see it in my gallery?). I tried it (never posted it) a while ago to see what it was like, and it sucked ass. It was boring, not fun, not interesting, and I was disappointed with myself for even trying it. Fuck that. Gimme back my damn pencil, I wanna create shit the right way.
Originality may be harder to come by - there's not a single original idea in the world anymore thanks to the rapidly sharing of ideas and stories to tell via internet, conversations, emails, phones, etc., but you can at least try! Try with every fiber in your being, and maybe, just maybe, something good can come from it.
I don't care if you complain about art/writers/anything block. We all get that. Still no excuse - light your muse through some other means, not copying or tracing shit. If you can, ask before referencing. If asking is too much trouble or hard to get to that person, find another means to contact them, or make sure they KNOW what's going on, so it doesn't look like you're stealing. Do something about it, that way you don't get blasted.
I'm sorry for leaving for so long. (one post here doesn't mean I'm a hundred percent back - don't know if I'll ever truly be thanks to real life going completely sideways)
I'm sorry for starting myself back up on this rant.
I'm sorry for anyone I may have hurt or offended, but please, it's for your own good. Stop it.
Please listen to someone who has worked hard for the past 16 years on their artwork.
Oh, and my fucking bases? You're wasting your time. Don't use them anymore. They suck, they're old, and even though it's made for beginners' practice, I KNOW you can come up with better shit. I'm going to delete them (someday). Just gonna make posted/video tutorials after that. You guys don't need bases. You guys can be awesome all by yourselves. : )
Thank you for your time, friends.
Nark0tica (keep up the good work on catching those thieves. You are doing a mighty service to us all.)
