Don't do it.  Don't steal from other artists.  It's really not good for you, your self esteem, your mind, your soul, or the person you're stealing from.

Don't recolor.
Don't trace.
Don't reference without permission of the original artist(s).
Don't claim to other people's work.
Don't steal their characters, ideas, stories, anything that never belonged to you (it's plagiarism).
And don't ever try to make money off of anything of the sort (copyright claims).
Please.
Don't fucking do it.

At least if you're going to do anything like that, don't expect praise, glory, fame or even infamy from it, because no one wants to see it on the internet.  Not me.  Don't post it anywhere where anyone can see it.  Don't.  Just.  Don't.

Wanna see amazing artwork, hard effort and heavily detailed pieces that just reek with amazingness?  Pick up a pencil, mouse, tablet pen, hell, your freakin' iPad whatever, and DRAW.  Practice, get confident, then come back in the ring, prepared, like a mature person.

Praise, fame and glory (and riches to follow if you're aiming to be successful) only come to those who work hard and slave over their talents and skills to improve and become better people as they do so.  I strive for this myself, so I can become even better of a person who takes constructive criticisms to heart and opens up to a new way of looking at things.  I've been drawing since I was a child.  12 is when I started to get "good".  I never once recolored, stolen, copied or traced shit when I was a kid (and posted it on the interwebs for all to see and laugh at).  I've never done it here (do you see it in my gallery?).  I tried it (never posted it) a while ago to see what it was like, and it sucked ass.  It was boring, not fun, not interesting, and I was disappointed with myself for even trying it.  Fuck that.  Gimme back my damn pencil, I wanna create shit the right way.

Originality may be harder to come by - there's not a single original idea in the world anymore thanks to the rapidly sharing of ideas and stories to tell via internet, conversations, emails, phones, etc., but you can at least try!  Try with every fiber in your being, and maybe, just maybe, something good can come from it.

I don't care if you complain about art/writers/anything block.  We all get that.  Still no excuse - light your muse through some other means, not copying or tracing shit.  If you can, ask before referencing.  If asking is too much trouble or hard to get to that person, find another means to contact them, or make sure they KNOW what's going on, so it doesn't look like you're stealing.  Do something about it, that way you don't get blasted.

*sigh*

I'm sorry for leaving for so long.  (one post here doesn't mean I'm a hundred percent back - don't know if I'll ever truly be thanks to real life going completely sideways)
I'm sorry for starting myself back up on this rant.
I'm sorry for anyone I may have hurt or offended, but please, it's for your own good.  Stop it.

Please listen to someone who has worked hard for the past 16 years on their artwork.

Oh, and my fucking bases?  You're wasting your time.  Don't use them anymore.  They suck, they're old, and even though it's made for beginners' practice, I KNOW you can come up with better shit.  I'm going to delete them (someday).  Just gonna make posted/video tutorials after that.  You guys don't need bases.  You guys can be awesome all by yourselves.  : )

Thank you for your time, friends.

It's not really about me, it's about artist in general and having their work sapped from them and used the way they shouldn't be.  I feel for them and retracted my bases because a few people have been using them incorrectly and even though people like you have been good with them, sometimes it takes a massive recall to make a statement.  Actions are louder than "please credit me" over and over again.  Don't worry, I don't think this will last forever.  :)  Thank you for being a responsible user, the entire base making-using community needs more people like you~  ^_^

Agreed.
Sad part is, I think many deviants make these kinds of journals, all very well written, more so than mine, but we still have a large number of people on the site who do this.  It just doesn't get across.  ><;  What to do...?

I try bases for fun. Most of my art is usually either sprites, and the non-sprite ones (82% of my gallery) are usually hand/digital drawn. Like I said, I only use bases for fun and tests, and I credit whoever did the base.

"I am not good with hands and I am trying to improve on my hands" is also the reason.

And there's no shame in that! For test runs, especially! If you like bases and like to use them because they help (which much of the time they do) or they're too cool to pass up, that's great. ^_^ I'm glad you do. I'm also really glad you give credit. Another great part of it all. Thank you for being honest about that, as where I've seen too many other fail to do so. ^^

I just got fed up with them because I know mine are terrible (glad I got rid of them all) and I know artists can do better than what I can provide for them. There are so many creative people out there, and I know that using bases all the time can be crippling to a wonderful new skill. That's really all. ^_^; Just a personal gripe with 'em.

Hands are indeed, a real pain to do. Yes. I agree with you 100%. I wish I was good enough at them to try a tutorial for those in a similar position, as a means to simplify it. ^^; Trust me, I would if I could. XD

Keep up with your hard work and you'll be excellent with anything you want. ^_^ Much luck to you, friend.

I see what you mean though. Might not stop me from using bases in pure boredom, but w/e, thank you for the advice.
