The Artist and the Hunter 44 “What is it Foaly?” Artemis growled. “I was in the middle of something.” His Armani shoes barely making a sound as he skittered down a flight of stairs to the lab.
Ariel/Jim Lunchtime BluesAriel walked through the arched doors of the Interstellar Academy for the first time, squinting to keep from staring in wide-eyed wonder. She looked down at her knee- high boots, concentrating on walking in the inch heels through the spacious cobblestone foyer. Twin staircases bowed away from each other, framing floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows depicting space ships on the far wall. Natural light streamed in through circular windows in the high ceilings, and the room was designed so it always sounded busy. Today, though, it actually was. Students in white and blue uniforms bustled about, the new students gathered in clumps to figure out where their classes were located. Ariel, standing as straight as she could to look confident, rushed to the table with a sign which read “Information and Student Help.”
A short about the dark past of a Grim ReaperMy father had the four rules written in calligraphy on his study wall. It hung next to his war medals and doctorate commendations. The parchment the rules were scribed on was old, made of skin of some sort and browned and ragged at the edges. For years I thought the list was an old relic brought from his years abroad before he met Mom, before Mom had me. They were strange rules: “1. Thou shalt not reap that which was not sown. 2. Thou shalt not pardon that which needs reaping. 3. Thou shalt not reap from another’s field. 4. Thou shalt reap what thou hadst been assigned. On pain of Death, obey these thy commandments.”
Landlocked 1James Hawkins leaned precariously by one arm from the rope ladder to look over the star cruisers edge to the planet where he and his class would be getting their field training.
Landlocked 2After two days of heavy training and review with Captain Harris of the Imperial Fleet, Jim was informed of his first hands-on assignment.
Landlocked 3Whawhat was that? Flounder quailed as Ariel further explored the cabin. Her friends terrified inquiry and the eerie quiet could not reach her. She saw it. On a broken wooden pedestal was an antique pipe with the initials LH emblazoned on the bell. It was beautiful. Ariel hesitated, then picked up the foreign object. Had it been there a moment before?
Landlocked 4(Authors note: Im leaving out a big chunk of The Little Mermaid plot here because everyone knows it already. In short, Ariel and Scuttle at the rock, the concert she missed, and her father's punishment, because changing them wouldn't further this fic, and it would be boring to read the movie. If you dont know what's going on, rent the movie.)
